Your child's word pattern skills will be assessed periodically throughout the school year via a spelling tests. This data is used to help me target your child's specific needs and will help guide word work instruction. Some of the word patterns we will be working on may include: consonants, short and long vowels, digraphs, blends, silent (magic) e, long vowel patterns and vowel teams, specific word endings, etc. We will be practicing the word patterns in class and it is important that your child is able to transfer their knowledge of the word patterns over into their writing and their spelling. They should be focusing on learning the word pattern and not just memorizing words, so that they are able to apply their knowledge of the word pattern to new and different words as well. Please encourage your child to practice these word patterns at home! This will greatly benefit your child's growth in reading and writing!
