The pre-service teaching demonstration was conducted inside our classroom with the BEEd 3A as the students. Our topic was about available sound sources for grade 5 music. The demonstration teaching went well, and I have performed my part the best I could.
During the teaching demonstration, I feel really nervous if I will perform well but at the same time confident that I have prepared enough for the demonstration. But, during the teaching demonstration, I experienced mental block because of nervousness and forgot to introduce the rubrics of the activity, but overall, I am happy with our performance and my part as I was able to play my role confidently.
The teaching demonstration went well with the lesson and the instructional materials were very engaging. I was able to explain the instructions of the activity and cover most of the content confidently. However, my nervousness gets the best of me, which made me have a mental block during the demonstration teaching and forget the most important part of the activity to assess the students, the rubrics. This led to my students not being fully aware of the criteria of the activity that affects their understanding and performance.
Reflecting on this experience, I realized that my nervousness was the reason for my mental block because, although I had good preparation, my anxiety affected my ability to recall important details during the demonstration. This highlighted the need to practice more for preparation and overcoming nervousness in front of people. Moreover, having to note the sequence of the part of my demonstration would’ve been helpful.
In conclusion, I should have practiced more and reviewed my part a lot more so that I could remember all of the sequence of what I will be saying, as well as practice relaxation techniques to overcome my nervousness. Additionally, I should have had a clear checklist of all the important points that I will cover to ensure that I will not miss any part. Due to this, I learned of the importance of balancing through preparation and to incorporate strategies to stay calm and focused during the actual teaching.
For future teaching demonstrations, I will practice relaxation exercises and develop a checklist of key points to cover during the lesson, ensuring that I don’t forget essential components like the rubrics, as well as more and more practice. By following these steps, I aim to improve my teaching performance, manage my anxiety more effectively, and ensure that all important aspects of the lesson are covered comprehensively to become a more confident and effective educator.
