Our fifth performance task is to create instructional material. This was another activity that me and my friends did, and I am proud that we have created instructional material that is easy to use and learner-friendly.

Our instructional material is a mock-up washing machine. Since we cannot bring the real object to school, we are going to make a mock-up for the children. We also emphasize the simplicity of the whole instructional material with the goal of relation and familiarity of the material to them, easy to use by the teacher, and can be used in other subjects. During the crafting of our material, we encountered a lot of challenges with the making of the mockup. Since two of our members were from ISAUB, they had to travel to our boarding house to help in the making. We also had to DIY the used boxes of apples to make a whole washing machine structure, and there was an unexpected power outage that hindered our printing of the shirts. However, looking back, what really challenged me was the paint, because during that week when we were crafting our IM, it was raining non-stop and I had to buy paint in the market. Since I and my one friend were the only ones who didn’t have flu, one of us needed to buy the paint while the other needed to assemble the clothesline. Another problem was the paint. Since it was pouring cats and dogs outside, the only thing that could dry our painted material is the fan and we have to wake up at 12 am and 3 am to check if the paint is ready for the second and third coatings to achieve the glossy white color. In the end, we survived and completed our instructional material; we also presented it and received positive and constructive criticism from our teacher on how to improve our IM.

In conclusion, there was a lot to consider in making the instructional material. I learned more things in making one, such as the mockup washing machine, and I am happy that we are able to present our IM to our teacher and to my classmates and gain positive feedback from them. All I can say is that it was hard but it was challenging and fulfilling.
