Our second performance task was to create a promotional video of the College of Education that consists of the recital of the WPU Mission, Vision, and Core Values and the college goals and program objectives.
In this performance task, I first felt the pressure of being the reason why me and my groupmates failed the task because of misunderstanding the content of the promotional video. But I was happy that during the video creation, my groupmates were flexible when it came to the schedule of the dates when we were going to capture clips needed for our task and let my friend take the lead in recording a video of them and form a bond with them since we are from different campuses before and there is still awkwardness among us.
Before the viewing of our promotional videos, our teacher announced to us that one group had not recited the WPU mission, vision, and core values, and the college goals and program objectives, and I knew it was us. It was my mistake as the leader of the group to not clarify and check if the instruction I received was correct. My initial thought was not to literally recite it but to just include it in the video without reciting it, that the College of Education was aligned with the WPU Mission and Vision. The night after the whole day's activity, I was reflecting on my incompetency and cried because of how much work we spent but failed and how much it would affect our grades since it was a group performance task. Nevertheless, the results of our hard work received happy and positive feedback from our classmates upon viewing our promotional video because of the bloopers.
In conclusion, it is very important to not only trust your memory but also to take note of the details needed and not be afraid to ask for clarification if the task is confusing. I also realized the burden of being a leader if a task fails, and I accepted my mistakes and apologized to them. In the next project or activity that I will be a leader, I’ll be sure to take notes of these kinds of mistakes and, as much as possible, avoid doing them again.
