PHS vs. WCHS Volleyball Game: Another Win for Pioneer!

Congratulations to our Lady Patriots for playing phenomenally throughout rival week against Woodland Christian and Woodland High School. On Wednesday, 9/15, both of our JV and Varsity teams faced off against Woodland Christian.

The JV team played first, finishing the game in the first two sets. This was due to the Lady Patriot’s phenomenal serving and many aces. Along with our serving, the JV team's overall consistent play allowed Pioneer to set up lots of good sets and finishes, making them nearly unstoppable.

In this battle Vs. Woodland Christian, Vannesa Herrera Rico proved to be one of the most consistent players on the floor, making lots of perfect sets for her teammates. Not only that but she did not tire, playing more than ¾ths of the game time.

On the other hand, Trinity Headrick had the sharpest and most consistent serve on the court. Her great serving can primarily be attributed to her strong power and accuracy. After the game was over, Trinity told us about how amazing it felt to be back out on the court after not having a true season last year due to COVID-19, stating, “Honestly I love it, it's been really fun to be with people again and playing a team sport after so long”.

Adriana Duran also felt the excitement of being able to play with a crowd again. She said, "It is way better to have people in the crowd cheering for us compared to last season.” Overall, the Junior Varsity played well as a team and were able to bring home a 2-0 victory against the Cardinals.

After such a performance from the JV squad, it was time for the Varsity team to face off against the Cardinals. As we went into the first set, the Lady Patriots got off to a phenomenal start against the Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Patriots were eventually able to win the first set through strong serving from Riley Ramirez, and Emma Brown; great teamwork and coordination throughout the whole team.

Going into the second set, we saw Soquel Childers come through strong with her serving. Through her aces and strong teamwork from the rest of the team, the Lady Patriots powered through the following two sets, ultimately winning the game 3-0.

After the game, Riley Ramirez was asked, “If there was one thing you’d want to take away from today’s game, what would it be?” She said she would like to be able to reflect on the mistakes she made on the court today and improve them for the future. Riley’s words perfectly described the energy and attitude our Lady Patriots had coming off the court today. Congratulations to both teams for playing phenomenally and bringing it home!
