A New Face at School: Mr. Olson

Ava Fowler - November 1st, 2023

This year, Pioneer High School welcomed one of many new faces: Mr. Olson, he’s ready to face new challenges and is eager to make a positive impact on the community.

He previously worked at American Canyon High and then Dixon High before coming to pioneer. When compared to American Canyon and Dixon High, Mr. Olson says “Pioneer is bigger, but I've really loved teaching in the community I live in. I already knew some students' parents, and it's easier for me to coach and to go to more events to support my students. This makes everything feel more close-knit.”

After switching schools, building a reputation can take time, he says it’s like starting over, however, every day does get better as he shares, “It’s my job to make it clear how much I care about teaching and coaching”, displaying his passion for sharing knowledge and helping students succeed in sports.

Mr. Olson teaches psychology. He says he likes to teach it because “psych is incredibly useful. It’s an instruction manual for your brain”, he wants students to be able to understand their own thoughts, feelings, motivations, personality, intelligence, and the importance of mental health.

He hopes to see his kids go to Pioneer one in the future and learn how to be good people who work hard to help others and have the ability to see beyond themselves. He wants them, as well as all his students, to be able to embrace a hard-working identity so they can be happy and successful.
