Ms. Swanson, PHS' New Theater Teacher

Samantha Jackson - November 1st, 2023

In D401, a teacher that most students know as an English teacher is actually taking on another class this year. This year, the Theater A/B class is being taught by none other than Ms. Swanson.

Ms. Swanson teaches her drama students how to dance, fight, and do many other activities while also staying in character. Students are taught how to better their acting with helpful comments and suggestions from Ms. Swanson. The most prominent is that the students are taught how to be confident.

For the Theater class, Ms. Swanson wants to inspire the students to be more confident in themselves. She is happy with how the class is going so far, and loves how determined the students are to get better at performing.

Ms. Swanson’s hope for the drama class is that they “know the difference between confidence and arrogance; to live and act with confidence, even momentarily, on stage.” Ms. Swanson cares deeply for all her students, and she wants to see them be confident with who they are and what they do. That, alongside the fact that she loves helping the students, is the reason she chose to teach the theater class this year.

Ms. Swanson’s love for the theater class is shown by this year’s play. This year’s spring play has been written by Ms. Swanson herself, and follows highschoolers as they navigate through senior year. Auditions are on November 6th and 7th, so stop by and pick up a form from Ms. Swanson’s class at D401.

All in all, we are happy that Ms. Swanson stepped up to the task of teaching the Drama class, and wish her the best of luck for her play!
