Ms. Meija, A New Addition to PHS

It can be hard to be a new teacher, but having other teachers there can make things a little easier. Daisy Mejia Ibarra, or as the students here call her, "Mrs. Mejia is a new teacher in Pioneer High School.  The main teacher that seemed to help Mr. Mejia the most when coming to this school was Mrs. Roush because she helped her connect to the students more.

Surprisingly, Ms. Meija wanted to be a teacher in middle school.  She explained that as a student, she struggled in school, but her teacher was the one who encouraged her to keep trying and not to give up. In five years, she hopes that she would still teach with more dogs if she could afford them.

Ms. Meija says that her biggest strength is her ability to connect with students since she’s younger. She explained how in college they teach you a lot of technical things about being a teacher, but they don’t teach you how to connect with students and have fun. She is the most proud of being the first person in her family to go to college. Her grandparents on her dad’s side were illiterate. Now, she is the first person in her family to not only go to college, but graduate highschool.

She considers her biggest weakness to be the fact that she is still learning, and  there's times she wants to be a better teacher than she is. As a student myself here, there are a lot of teachers I have had in school that weren't very good teachers and were very rude and condescending to their students, but Mrs. Mejia was one of the teachers that made me want to do better in school and helped me when I was stuck or needed help. I hope that she continues to be a teacher here and make this school a better place.
