How the Woodland Public Library Drummed Up Interest for their Teen Halloween Party

Naomi Tamene - November 1st, 2023

Every year, the Woodland Public Library hosts their Teen Halloween Party for teens in 7th through 12th grade. With laser tag, escape rooms, a costume contest, food, and much more, the party is a fun way to celebrate Halloween with friends.

This event in particular has taken a hit in attendance since the pandemic. Pre-pandemic the public library had about 200 teens in attendance, while the first party after the pandemic had only 100 teens in attendance. Since then, the public library has been able to bring that number up to around 120 teens last year, and no doubt even higher this year.

This year’s Teen Halloween Party, held on October 27th from 6 to 8 pm, had two escape rooms, even more prizes and categories for the costume contest, and characters such as Pennywise and Michael Myers scaring teens as they played laser tag, all in an effort to drum up more interest and attendance for the party.

Some more efforts to get the word out included tik toks promoting the party on the Woodland Public Library’s TikTok page and free tickets and books passed out at lunch at both Pioneer and Woodland High School.

If you missed out on this fun opportunity to hang out with your friends and maybe win a $25 gift card with your Halloween costume, don’t worry, the Teen Halloween Party will be back in all its glory next year! And if you’d like to help plan this and other public library events, join the Woodland Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board that helped plan and decorate for this event, and does so every year.
