The Host of the Century

Melanie Salazar

There are 4 seasons in a year.

Each one brings their own kind of fear.

Allergies, heat strokes, and harsh moody weather,

Isn’t there something that is more peaceful like a feather?

Why there is, and it just so happens to be here.

There is just one season that brings much joy

The one season where each kid receives a toy.

Religion, holidays, oh so much to be celebrated.

Its winds bring so much chill like from where it originated.

Winter, won’t you be a dear and be the host of the period?

Winter, oh winter, what do you plan for us today?

Is it possibly a snow day that will wash off our dismay?

Or maybe some hot cocoa that will make us want to stay!

Whether it is or not, we are all waiting for a sign.

Just like how you brought the Christmas parade to our town last night.

Winter, oh winter, what about next month?

Time is speeding by like it's running its own marathon!

It will be a new year, filled with laughter and hugs.

Who knows? Maybe Lincoln will cheer with us using his own mug.

But be sure to act quick, for your hosting days will soon fly away.

Winter, oh how you can be so very cold sometimes.

But you are so similar to an ember, with just having ice.

You bring families together, just like in the month of november.

Sitting at a table, the 25th of december,

Thank you for your memorable season, and merry Christmas to you too.
