Boys Basketball: Pioneer Patriots vs. Woodland Wolves

On January 31st, Pioneer High School’s boy basketball team played against Woodland High’s JV and Varsity teams. Both of Pioneer’s teams were successful in beating out their longtime rivals with a strong performance from both JV and Varsity.

The JV game started off slowly with a 11-1 first quarter but in the second quarter, the Patriots had extended their lead to 30-8. At the half, the Patriots looked to extend their lead and were successful in doing so, bringing the score to 44-15 and closed out the game 55-25. As the JV game was wrapping up, the Varsity team was preparing for their game against Woodland, putting on their game faces, and warming up with their ball control. Senior player, Samrat Adihikary, said that “[he] was just trying to get locked in mentally and remember all the preparation [he] did before the game”.

The Varsity game started off close with a 15-11 score as the first quarter ended. As the game continued, the Patriots’ lead extended to 35-25 in the second quarter and 53-33 in the third as they picked up their offense and defense.

As the game came to a close the Patriots finished off strong with a 63-41 score and Samrat scoring a total of 32 of the Patriots’ points; his personal highest score. Pioneer Varsity Men’s Basketball was only one game away from playing in the playoffs. Closing off the interview with Samrat Adihikary, he states, “We had really good defense and were also passing the ball well and making crucial shots, overall just a good game from everyone.”
