Learning Center Reopening

Pioneer’s Learning Center recently reopened for the first time in a year and a half. Students are once again able to seek tutoring and extra help in a safe and welcoming environment, which can be found to the left of the front library entrance.

“We offer support for homework, studying, and reviewing materials. We have tutors that can help in different subjects. We have all the books you need here, and computers,” says Juvencio Vargas, Pioneer’s new Learning Center coordinator. Vargas has worked here for the past five years as a tutor; this is his first year serving as the coordinator.

“Any student is welcome to come here after school, and we’ll have tutors available to assist them if they need help in any subject.” According to Vargas, tutors are equipped to work with students, teach them better study habits, and help them catch up on homework.

Sometimes students don’t have the quiet space at home to focus on their studies. The Learning Center strives to be that space for students who need it. “This is a great learning environment,” shares Vargas.

The Learning Center is also open at lunch. Additionally, students can come during class if they obtain a pass from their teacher, although Vargas recommends that they stay in class to get all the information they need. “Sometimes students miss a few days and need time to catch up—that’s when teachers will give them a pass to come here.”

There’s no denying that the pandemic threw off learning for a lot of students. Everyone at the Learning Center understands this and wants to do their best to help students succeed. If you need help, don’t hesitate to head to the Learning Center and ask for it.
