Nope

Jordan Peele’s newest movie, Nope, debuted 2 months ago in July, and then came to digital a little under a month ago. It opened to mostly very positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. Having watched the movie the day it came out on digital, I agree with these critics. The movie is smart, sophisticated, and most of all, a spectacle. It is admittedly different from Peele’s other works like Get Out and Us, but I say that in the best possible way. Trying to avoid spoilers, the plot is about a horse trainer (Daniel Kaluuya), and his sister (Keke Palmer) encountering strange occurrences on their ranch following the presence of a strange cloud. Visually the movie is beautiful. Being set in Agua Dulce, California, you don’t expect dry mountains and ranches to look amazing, but many shots just look simply magnificent. Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, and the rest of the cast all give phenomenal performances and I believe are perfectly cast for their characters. The main messages of the movie, being the criticism of spectacle, the entertainment industry, and animal handling, are also very creative and left me wondering for many hours on what everything in the movie means. The more I thought about this movie, the more I loved it!
