Drive-In Movie Cancellation

During Pioneer’s Homecoming week, many students around campus prepared for the events while participating in the school’s spirit week. With everything leading up to the float judging, Royal Court winners, the anticipated football game and in substitute of the Homecoming dance, a Drive-In movie, it was coming up to be an exciting week.

However, the topic of the Drive-In movie was in many ways questionable. For starters when the announcement of the movie that would be showing came out, my first thought in mind was “It’s fall…”. Seeing that Grown-Ups was going to be the showing really brought my hopes down of experiencing a reasonable Drive-In movie replica. There were so many perfect opportunities to watch any other movie like Beetlejuice, Frankenweenie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or even Edward ScissorHands, which all set the mood for the fall and Halloween season.

Another thing that I did take into thought was the amount of students that would be willing to go. Since the majority of the students don’t drive, it would’ve been harder or not as convenient for those without a car to even be able to go. Because of this main issue and the fact that the movie wasn’t as worthy of watching for a substituted Homecoming Event, it was one of the reasons why the whole thing was cancelled.

Nevertheless, throughout the days leading up to the Homecoming football game, students came to school supporting Pioneer by wearing the attire correlating to the spirit day. Following these spirit days also came the voting for each class's Royal Court. Continuing the Royal Court ceremony came the judgement of the floats that each class had presented. Seeing all the different ideas of each class really showed off the creativity and artsiness that Pioneer has and continues to advance. Even though we had lost the homecoming game, it was still a fun night with many memorable events that will be looked back on.

Overall, even without a substituted Homecoming Event, the week was still memorable as well as very exciting to see and be a part of.
