We had our first almost full week of school and did great, our stamina is building! We are still wondering if it is time for lunch or snack or going home at all times of day, but we're are getting into our routine!

We had guided discovery of pencils in our classroom. Ms. Bell model how to get, use, and take care of the pencils. We then traced lines with our new tool. Ms. Bell was checking pencil grip and helping anyone who needed an adjustment. When we were done we added the pencils to the other "tools" in our tool boxes.

Now that we are into the routine and have had 12 days of school we created our classroom expectations. Our expectations are to be Honest, Engaged, Appropriate, Responsible, and Timely. (HEART) We talked about what that looks like in our classroom. We then all agreed to the expectations by putting a thumbprint and writing our names on our poster which will hang in our room all year. Look for it soon above the hooks in the classroom.

Mrs. Lavigne and Mrs. LaMothe came to visit during Morning Meeting to introduce Sound of the Week. This week they did the letter Tt. Every Tuesday they will come in and do one sound with us. We sing, chant, and practice the sound with different objects that begin with that sound. Everyone had a great time and was fully engaged.

We began Fundations this week, our phonics program. We learned about the letter Tt. We practiced saying the sound and writing the letter on whiteboards. After our work is done we get to free draw/write on the whiteboards. Much of this week was spent introducing the different materials and routines of Fundations. In your child's Friday Folder is a paper explaining the program and what to expect this year.

During math this week we began our work with partner talk while learning about shapes. Math this year will involve A LOT of partner talk to gain meaning and understanding of concepts. We strive to make sense of concepts, explain why and eventually generalize about the concept (what works all the time). We focus on the Habits of Mind, a public record in our classroom shown below. The stars highlight the habits we are focusing on that day.

Some of our very first partner talks...
