The majority of students arrive to and leave Stantonsburg Elementary on bus or family vehicles. Stantonsburg does have a few students who walk to school.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
Phone calls to change a student’s transportation will not be accepted after 2:00PM. If your child normally arrives on a bus in the morning OR usually rides the bus in the afternoons, then he/she will ride the bus home UNLESS THE BUS DRIVER AND TEACHER ARE NOTIFIED IN WRITING THAT THE CHILD WILL NOT BE RIDING THE BUS THAT AFTERNOON. If transportation plans change, please write a note and send it with your child to school. ClassDojo messages to change transportation must be made early. If you have not received a response from the teacher, assume the message was not read and call the front office before 2:00PM.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
School bus transportation is a privilege – not a right - and may be withdrawn for inappropriate behavior while waiting to board, disembarking from, or while on the bus.
Detailed information about bus transportation may be accessed on the Wilson County Schools Transportation Department page. The information below applies to all students who ride Stantonsburg buses in compliance with those policies.
BUS ASSIGNMENTS AND SPECIAL BUS PERMISSIONS
Bus assignments will be posted for all students registered with the school during Open House.
Students may ride the bus only if they are assigned by the school system to ride that particular bus. Emergency requests to ride a bus cannot be granted or allowed.
Any requests for change of bus stop, special bus assignments, or other special requests must be submitted to our office for Transportation Department verification and approval.
Students who do not have bus assignments must be provided with alternate transportation by their parents until they receive approval.
Requests for temporary bus reassignment (i.e., riding home with a friend) must be requested in writing by a family member listed on the Student Reunification Form and include an accurate phone number for verbal confirmation by the school office. Students should take notes requesting a Special Bus Assignment to the front office upon arrival in the morning to allow time for verification.
Students who do not ride the bus at least one day per week may be removed from the assigned bus list.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS ON THE BUS
All school policies regarding student conduct apply to students at their bus stop and on the bus. Students should follow these basic procedures when riding the bus.
BUS TIMES
All students are expected to be at the bus stop when the bus arrives. The bus driver has been trained not to wait for students and will not honk the horn. Bus times are estimates. Please be looking for your child’s bus 20 minutes before and 20 minutes after their estimated time. Please download the Here Comes the Bus App, so you can follow your child’s bus route to give you a better estimate of when the bus will arrive.
DAMAGING SCHOOL BUSES
Board Policy states that any willful or careless damage to a school bus shall be paid for by the person responsible for such damage. The Principal and the Transportation Director will inspect all school buses and assess fair and reasonable damage fees. All persons should be aware that, in addition to violating Board policy, it is unlawful to willfully demolish, destroy, deface, injure, burn or damage any public school bus or public school activity bus. Students who are assigned to a seat on the bus will be expected to maintain those seats.
BUS DISCIPLINE
Drivers will make every allowance before submitting referrals for bus discipline. Students who are written up will conference with administration and discipline will be applied based on the behavior. See the above list of consequences. Depending on the seriousness of the offense, administration reserves the right to suspend bus privileges at their discretion. During bus suspensions, parents must provide alternate transportation to and from school. All buses are equipped with audio/video recording devices.
CARLINE
Stantonsburg has 2 carlines.
The line closest to the building is for students who are ready to get out of the car and go inside and do not need adult assistance.
The 2nd line from the building is for students who may need a little additional time gathering their belongings or for parents to help them get out of their car seat, but this line should keep moving as well.
All other cars should park in an appropriate parking space. Additional Parking is available in the staff parking lot located on the side of the building.
CROSS-WALK
All students should use the marked walkway and crosswalk when exiting their vehicles. Staff should encourage students to use the crosswalks and correct them when they try to cut through.
MORNING
Students arriving by car in the morning must remain in their vehicles until the school opens at 7:30 AM. There are no adults at the school to supervise children and students are not allowed on the hallways before that time. Student who arrive after 8:00AM will be counted tardy and a parent must sign-in at the front office.
AFTERNOON
Students are released through the front doors of the school at 3:00 PM. Families may park in the car line and wait for students to leave the building. Individuals who need to enter the building should park in a parking space rather than the pick-up line to avoid congestion at dismissal. Unless you have an appointment, if your child is a car rider, we ask that you do not park and walk up to pick up your child, but wait in the car line. This is to ensure the safety of all students during this very busy time at school. Students will come to the car when they are called. If your child is a car rider, you must come through the car line. No walk-ups from the school parking lot, car line, or street will be allowed. Please stay in your vehicle. It is also important to make sure that the person who is picking up your child is listed on their contact information located in the office as well as on the teacher’s contact list. If someone different needs to pick up your child, a note must be sent to the teacher with this transportation change.
EARLY CHECK-OUT
Students who have appointments after school must be checked out before 2:30 PM. The school will not check students out between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM.
