SCHOOL NURSE
Candice Cockrell, the School Nurse, is typically at Stantonsburg once weekly. Nurse Cockrell will communicate the medical needs of students to teachers and staff as she is made aware. Parents should notify their child's teachers and our school nurse of any relevant medical information that could affect their child while at school or in an emergency situation.
MEDICATION
Based on WCS Board Policy 6125 & 6125-R, school personnel may not administer medication without the written instructions and a completed medication form signed by the doctor prescribing the medication and the parent/guardian. School personnel may not apply any treatment beyond first aid.
Prior to dispensing medication to any student (prescription or over-the-counter), parents must complete a request for medication administration. This form is located in the front office. The medication being dispensed must be prescribed by a doctor. When the parent/guardian sends the medication, it must be in the original container with clear directions from the doctor/pharmacy printed on the label attached to the container. Most pharmacists are aware of this and, if asked, will split the prescription into two bottles so that one can be brought to school and be properly administered. Students should not bring medication to school. Medication should be delivered by a parent. All student medication questions must be directed to Candice Crockrell, our school nurse.

SCHOOL COUNSELING
Stantonsburg School Counselor is Joan Taylor.
All students at Stantonsburg have access to services provided by the School Counselor. On-campus counseling is available to students who are experiencing difficulties with academics or behavior, social problems, family problems, including medical emergencies and adjustment to school in general.
Parents can refer a child to the counselor by calling the front office and asking to speak with our school counselor. You can also email Mrs. Taylor at Joan.Taylor@wilsonschoolsnc.net. Students can also refer themselves by letting their teacher know that they would like to speak with the counselor. The teacher will then contact the counselor. The counselor will call students to her office for conferences.
Any mention of self-harm or harm to others will be taken seriously and should be reported immediately to the counselor and administration.
KINDERGARTEN HEALTH ASSESSMENT:
A kindergarten health assessment is required for all students entering kindergarten. Forms are available at medical doctors’ offices throughout the county. Students not completing the medical assessment will not be allowed to attend school until the assessment has been completed. Health Assessments can be completed at the W.A.S.H Clinics. If you have any questions or problems getting this assessment done, please contact the nurse at the school.
IMMUNIZATIONS:
Every student entering Kindergarten and those in the first through fifth grade must have a current immunization record and a health assessment on file in the office within 30 calendar days from the first day of school. Failure to do so may lead to suspension or expulsion from school. Students who enroll after that date have 30 days from the date they enrolled in the Wilson County Schools system to furnish proof of immunizations or the student will not be allowed to return to school until such proof is provided. If you do not know what immunizations are required, please contact the Wilson County Health Department or our school nurse.
ACCIDENTS:
Parents will be notified of accidents that need medical or immediate attention. You should be certain that the school ALWAYS has a current contact phone number and address for you, PLUS AN EMERGENCY CONTACT number (The emergency contact should be someone you trust to come pick-up your child if you cannot be reached.)
The Wilson Area School-Based Health Center (WASH) provides accessible and affordable physical and preventive health services to students and staff. WASH is located at Forest Hills Middle, Beddingfield High and Hunt High Schools. Any Wilson County Schools student or staff member can be seen by appointment at WASH for wellness or sick visits.
