Volunteers: WCS Board Policy 5015
Volunteers play an important role in helping students to be successful at Stantonsburg. There are many ways volunteers can assist around the school. Some examples include helping in the media center, helping with beautification of school grounds, reading to children, and helping proctor during EOGs. Parents who wish to volunteer should contact the front office.
Volunteer Portal:
Individuals who are interested in volunteering may create an account and submit an application through our new Volunteer Tracking System powered by Raptor at the following link:
English Link https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/OTc1NTplbi1VUw==
Spanish Link https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/OTc1NTplcy1VUw==
Please note that the application process includes two steps:
1.) Complete the Volunteer Application
2.) Consent to the Background Check (you’ll be directed to this after submitting your application)
Your application will not be complete until both the application and background check consent have been submitted. Once all components have been reviewed and approved, you will receive a notification confirming your volunteer status.
Parents must complete this process to attend field trips with their children. See FIELD TRIPS Below for details.
Visitors:
All persons entering the building should enter by the front door. Volunteers, parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters from another school, grandparents, EVERYONE visiting our school must first check in at the office and pick up a visitor’s badge. You must bring in your driver's license to sign in and receive a visitor or volunteer badge. When signing in, parents must indicate where they are going on the visitor’s badge. SES values instructional time. Visitors will not be allowed to visit classrooms at any time without prior approval from administration and classroom teachers. Visitors must return to the office before leaving to sign out using our check in and out computer system.
Birthday Parties:
If you wish to bring cupcakes and juice boxes for your child’s birthday then you will need to contact your child’s teacher at least 1 week prior to the date. All food brought in must be commercially prepared (bought at a store) in an appropriate container or individually wrapped. No homemade food items are allowed. This year all birthday refreshments will be served during Recess and will be outside, weather permitting with the exception of Ms. Lane's 1st Grade. Ms. Lane's class has recess before lunch, so her class's birthday refreshments may be served after 2:00PM in the classroom. All trash must be collected and disposed of properly to ensure our playground remains clean. Birthday refreshments cannot be handed out in the cafeteria.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
We are very proud of our Parent Teacher Organization and the support that it has provided in the past years. It is very important that you attend the meetings and become actively involved. Our PTO helps raise much-needed funds to help support our students and teachers. Joining the PTO is simple; just attend a PTO meeting, and you may join at that time.
Parent Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences are valuable times set aside to discuss a child's academic progress. Parents are encouraged to schedule a Parent-Teacher Conference to discuss any concerns that require more time than a quick phone call or class dojo message can address. Parents can set up Parent-Principal Conferences as well, but we ask that parents discuss their concerns with their child's teachers first to give them the opportunity to address the concern before involving administration. To schedule a Parent-Teacher conference, please email or classdojo, your child's teacher. To set up a Parent-Principal Conference, please call the front office at 252-238-3639.
FIELD TRIPS:
Education Opportunities: When appropriate, educators may utilize field trips to enrich and extend instruction. Teachers plan instructionally sound field trips for students.
Permission Slips: Any student who does not have a signed permission form will not be permitted to leave campus for field trips.
Fees: For some trips, the school may asks parents to pay a portion or all of the cost associated with the trip. In this case, the teacher will properly receipt all fees and charges for field trips paid by the student/parent. Money for field trips will not be refunded unless the school has to cancel the trip. You should keep your original receipt in case the school has to submit a refund in the event of a canceled trip. Please let your child's teacher know, if your family needs assistance covering the cost of the trip.
Behavior: Students who exhibit poor behavior while in school may not be allowed to participate in field trips unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Family Members: Any parent who wishes to attend or chaperone a field trip must be approved through the district volunteer tracking system which requires a clear background check. See VOLUNTEER PORTAL directions above or Sign up by visiting www.wilsonschoolsnc.net and enter volunteer in the search bar! The volunteer application should be completed at least one month prior to the field trip. Pending applications and expired approvals will not be honored.
We encourage parents to consider volunteering as a chaperone when appropriate. Per administrative discretion, approved chaperones may be assigned a small group of students to supervise during the trip. Field trips are considered an extension of the school day; therefore, applicable policies, rules, and procedures apply for the duration of the field trip. Please see Wilson County Schools Board Policy and Regulation 3320 School Trips for more information.
Approved volunteers who do not serve as chaperones may not be able to participate in the field trip activities due to venue limitations. If tickets must be pre-purchased for a trip, the school will secure only tickets for those adults volunteering as chaperones.
Siblings: Older or younger children/siblings/cousins, etc. who are not a member of the class are not permitted to attend field trips.
FUNDRAISERS:
School-wide Fundraiser: The school will have one fundraiser each year. This year, the fundraiser will be a Candy Man Fundraiser beginning in mid-September through October 1.
PTO Fundraisers: The PTO will hold several fundraising events throughout the year. Parents will have the opportunity to make donations. Please attend the PTO Meetings to help plan these events.
Student Government Association (SGA): The SGA will hold various fundraisers throughout the year to support student events and celebrations. Proceeds from the SGA fundraisers are usually used to increase morale for students and Staff through incentives and celebrations like PBIS Events and Water Day.
AUDITORIUM & MEDIA CENTER MANNERS:
Students and visitors are expected to behave in an orderly manner and pay attention to programs when we assemble as a group in the gym or media center. All cell phones should be silenced. If you must leave before the program is over, use the doors located in the back of the gym.
