At Wicor Primary School, our Trug Shop gives children real‑life experience in enterprise. They learn what it takes to run a small shop: handling money, talking confidently to customers, understanding supply and demand, and presenting produce in an appealing way. These are genuine interactions with real people - not classroom simulations - and this authenticity makes the learning meaningful and memorable. The shop strengthens their confidence, communication skills and sense of responsibility from the moment the doors open.
Our Trug Shop is a truly unique part of school life - a place where children sell the produce they have grown right here in our school grounds. Growing, harvesting and selling give them a genuine sense of purpose. They learn that what they grow matters, that quality counts, and that the food they produce has real value to the wider community. Every sale reinforces the idea that care, attention and pride in their work make a difference.
Selling to our local community offers children another compelling reason to grow. It deepens their connection to nature, nurtures responsibility, and brings real horticultural outcomes into everyday teaching. The shop validates their hard work outdoors and proves that learning can be purposeful, practical and full of joy.
The Trug, our small, on-site shop is usually open Friday mornings. Please contact the school office for opening times (01329 237412). We accept cash, cards or ApplePay.
Trug Tasting
The children cook using fresh produce and share this with our community at the Trug, along with recipe cards.
Hampers and Bags
Throughout the year, our Trug Club children create seasonal bags and hampers filled with produce from our school grounds. These are carefully prepared and sold to our parents and wider community, showcasing the children’s hard work, growing skills and pride in what they’ve produced.
Pop-up Shop
Occasionally, we host pop-up shops where children create and sell their own products.
