CTE Culinary

Hospitality Services – 3503 (Year 1); 3503A (Year 2) Two Years – 5 Credits Grades 11 – 12

The William Floyd Hospitality Services Academy offers a two-year course in Culinary Arts. The course of study includes classroom instruction and practical experience in the skills and theory needed to be employed in a variety of food service professions. Students will learn in our fully- equipped kitchen, which is equivalent to those found in restaurants around the word. Must pass industry assessment in order to receive this endorsement on diploma.

Successful completion of our program provides students with an opportunity to earn up to 7 advanced college credits through Suffolk County Community College’s Beacon Program. Those credits may be applied to the following SCCC programs of study: Culinary, Baking or Hotel Management.

Students will have the option of taking the BOM course for college credit through the Suffolk County Community College Beacon Program.


ELECTIVE OPTION

Introduction to Cooking and Food Design – 3511 Half Year – 1/2 credit Grade 10

Prerequisite: None

This is a beginner cooking class that introduces students to the world of food design. This course will help students build confidence and skill in the kitchen while at the same time allow students to use their creativity and discover the art of food. The course includes instruction and practical experience to develop skills and techniques. Students will also use their culinary skills to design food as an art form. Whether you are interested in advancing to our Hospitality Services CTE program or just want foundational cooking skills this class could be for you.
