WFHS Business Department Hosts Successful Career CaféThe William Floyd High School Business Department recently held its Career Café, an opportunity for students to learn from and interact with career professionals in various industries. Approximately 275 students in grades 10-12, met with representatives from more than 80 fields for in-depth conversations about their careers. Additionally, 22 William Floyd alumni also returned to share their expertise with students.

WFHS Business Academy Named NYS ‘Department of the Year’ for Sixth TimeThe William Floyd Business Academy has recently been named the 2021-2022 Department of the Year by the Business Teachers Association of New York State (BTANYS) and the New York State Education Department. This is the sixth time that the Business Academy has received this prestigious recognition.

WFHS Cosmetology Students Share Skills with Elementary StudentsWilliam Floyd High School cosmetology students recently visited Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School to demonstrate their skills and share what they have been learning! The high schoolers shared some basic hair care tips they have learned in the cosmetology classroom, including cutting, washing and braiding, and even styled some of the elementary students’ hair!

William Floyd Learning Center Students Visit WFHS Barbering Academy William Floyd Learning Center students recently participated in a hands-on educational workshop hosted by the William Floyd High School Barbering Academy. The younger students learned all about the latest techniques in hair cutting, styling, facial-hair grooming, shampooing and more!

WFHS Automotive Program Receives Donated Vehicle from Local State Farm AgentThe William Floyd High School Automotive program, part of the district’s award-winning career and technical education (CTE) offerings, recently received a vehicle donation of a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle from the Steven B. Pescetti State Farm Insurance Agency in Mastic.

Braving the Shave: WFHS Barbering & Cosmetology Students Collaborate on St. Baldrick’s FundraiserThe William Floyd High School Barbering Academy, part of the William Floyd’s robust career and technical education offerings, along with the Cosmetology Academy, recently hosted a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization devoted to fighting childhood cancer, which resulted in more than $1,400 for this great cause!

William Floyd Robotics Wins Industrial Design Award, Gears Up for LI Regional CompetitionThe William Floyd Robotics Team #287 recently competed at the New York Tech Valley Regional in Albany against 40 other talented robotics teams from around the country and the world. Team 287’s aspiring engineers made it to the quarterfinals with a 10th place finish, and earned the Industrial Design Award in the process. The Industrial Design Award, sponsored by General Motors, is presented to the team that best demonstrates industrial design principles, striking a balance between form, function and aesthetics.
