Day School News

November 10, 2023

Dear Day School Community,

Respect is an important core value at the Day School. Recently, we have had reports of teasing and joking that have a gone just a step too far. The students sometimes refer to this as roasting. Recently, we shared the following message with the students in our morning announcements:

Some students have been participating in roasting each other. This starts out as good natured fun with insults that are supposed to be funny. Unfortunately, some students have carried this too far. This results in feelings being hurt and a sense that a person is being personally attacked. Sometimes the insults involve family members. We are banning roasting in school and on the bus moving forward. You can still joke with your friends, but you need to be kind.

Teachers have had conversations in their classrooms to reinforce our core value of respect. We ask families to have similar conversations at home so that we can all be on the same page as a community.

Sincerely,

Chris Louis Sardella, Principal

Chrissy Michaud, Assistant Principal

Norman E. Day Elementary School

May your life be as colorful, shimmering and magical as the lights of Diwali.

The Day School community would like to thank all the veterans in our community for their service to our country.

This presentation is designed for parents/guardians and family members of K-12 students. Presentations include two leaders: one who shares an informative presentation and a young adult with a mental health condition who shares their journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain an understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma.

LAST NIGHT

Westford Academy’s senior event, LAST NIGHT, is currently looking for more volunteers!

What is Last Night and why should YOU get involved?

Last Night is an all-night event for graduating seniors at Westford Academy, allowing them a night of safe fun after graduation!  The event takes an army of 250+ volunteers to run each year and is a great opportunity to volunteer and support the community and specifically the graduating students of Westford!

If your children are elementary aged, this is the PERFECT time to begin volunteering for this incredible culminating event for seniors.  This event has been in existence for more than 25 years and will ONLY continue if parents show up to volunteer their time.  Parents of graduating seniors cannot attend the event making it the perfect opportunity for parents of younger students to step up and pay it forward.

Do you work during the day and have a difficult time volunteering for school events and book fairs?  Last Night runs 10pm-5am Friday to Saturday morning in June.  Perfect opportunity for day shift workers! Plan now!

Do you have young children at home and cannot secure babysitters to allow you to volunteer more? Alternate with your significant other or close friend and volunteer at Last Night each year until your children become seniors!

Do you have amazing ideas, traditions, or experiences that you can suggest making Last Night current, engaging and fun for students in 2024?

Bring your ideas, and cultural experiences to our upcoming Meet & Greet info night, or better yet, join our coordinators to help make the senior’s Last Night an event they will never forget! The coordinators meet one hour a month over zoom, making it very easy to participate. Please consider signing up for an open position and/or attending our upcoming meet & greet event to hear the many ways you can get involved.

The Meet & Greet will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14th, 7pm @ Tequila’s in Groton.  See details and RSVP HERE.

Our coordinator volunteer sign up is HERE.

Additional info and general/event volunteer signup can be found HERE.

Recycle Sneakers and Raise Money for Day School

The GotSneakers recycling organization will help us to recycle our sneakers! We will ONLY accept athletic sneakers and sports related footwear. Ideally, unused and gently used sneakers will raise the most money for our school. But, if you have sneakers with holes, mold/mildew or detached soles, GotSneakers will take them as well. By participating, you’ll help keep sneakers out of landfills while also putting shoes on the feet of people living in the Caribbean, Central America, South America, West Africa, and Europe. Some of the unusable sneakers will even be made into new athletic surfaces! Your old sneakers will make a huge difference; reducing what we throw away and raising money for our school is a win-win!

Please drop off all donations to the box outside near the Day School’s main entrance doors. We encourage you to bring all non-athletic shoes/boots to the drop-off bin in the St. Catherine’s Church parking lot, to Savers in Nashua, or to other local thrift shops for resale. Thanks so much for your support!
