Day School News

August 15, 2022

Dear Day School Community,

We are waiting with great anticipation for the opening day of school. The custodians have worked through the hottest days of the summer to get the building ready for our staff and students. Teachers have been preparing their classroom spaces to be welcoming for their students on the first day of school. Our office staff have been hard at work registering new students, preparing documents, learning new technologies, and ordering supplies. Now the only thing left to do is to fill our hallways with the smiles and laughter of our third, fourth, and fifth graders!

In this newsletter you'll find important information about logging onto to our new parent portal, PowerSchool. The parent portal opens on Tuesday, August 16 @Noon. At that time we will also be emailing teacher letters and supply lists for the coming school year.

We will have a couple of tours and events for incoming third graders and new families to Westford. Be sure to mark your calendars for these events.

Finally, welcome to our newest Day School staff and faculty. We are looking forward to an amazing school year!

Sincerely,

Chris Louis Sardella, Principal

2022-2023 Bus Pass Registration

BUS PASSED ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS RIDING THE BUS.

All students who plan to ride the bus during any point of the school year are required to register for a bus pass. Parents must register all children who plan to ride the bus, whether they qualify for fee-based transportation or not. All registrations for bus transportation will require online registration.

Please visit: https://www.westfordk12.us/district/transportation to determine cost and to register.

As the district increases its use of MySchoolBucks (MSB) for payments, we wanted to call attention to the program’s One-Pay option. All individual payments incur a 4.95% processing fee, whether payment is made via credit card, debit card or e-check (authorization of a direct withdrawal from a checking account through the use of the bank routing and account number).

Under the One-Pay option, a family can choose to either pay $12.95 for a single student or $26.95 for a family, and this would cover all e-check fees for one year from date of enrollment (note that credit/debit card payments would still incur fees). This can cross over school years. Enrollment in the One-Pay option is on the MSB home page, click here. If you have any questions, please contact the WPS Business Office at (978) 692-5560 ext. 2100 or

businessoffice@westfordk12.us

Free School Meals

We want to update you with exciting news about universal free school meals. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has decided to extend free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students.

Please note that even though meals will be free for all, it is very important for families to still complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2022-2023 school year. You can view and complete the application HERE . We strongly encourage ALL families to submit this form as it allows us to establish eligibility for P-EBT benefits, bus pass and activity fee waivers and serve families most effectively.

In addition, please consider applying for SNAP, the federal nutrition program that provides eligible residents with monthly financial assistance to purchase groceries. More SNAP information can be found at gettingsnap.org or by calling Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.

The food and nutrition department at Westford Public Schools thanks you for your patience awaiting this news! As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide nourishing and healthy meals to all Westford Public School students. Please reach out to Food Service director Colleen Wallace with any questions or concerns: cwallace@westfordk12.us or 978-399-2741.
