Day School News

May 14, 2022

Dear Day School Community,

This month has been quite busy at the Day School. Students did their best work on the mathematics MCAS with the science and technology assessment to follow this coming week. Day School artists were featured in the district art show at Westford Academy on Thursday night. Third graders have been traveling back in time with their visits to Westford's Parkerville one-room schoolhouse. Our fifth grade play, Frozen, will soon be wrapping up rehearsals with performances scheduled for June. Student senators visited Up with Books in North Chelmsford to pack up book bags that will be distributed at the Fitchburg food pantry. Not to mention, there is so much fun learning going on in the classrooms every day.

Please come visit us this weekend for the Scholastic Book fair! There are lots of great book selections and all proceeds will support our PTO.

Sincerely,

Chris Louis Sardella, Principal

Hilary Sturgis, Assistant Principal

As the district increases its use of MySchoolBucks (MSB) for payments, we wanted to call attention to the program’s One-Pay option. All individual payments incur a 4.95% processing fee, whether payment is made via credit card, debit card or e-check (authorization of a direct withdrawal from a checking account through the use of the bank routing and account number).

Under the One-Pay option, a family can choose to either pay $12.95 for a single student or $26.95 for a family, and this would cover all e-check fees for one year from date of enrollment (note that credit/debit card payments would still incur fees). This can cross over school years. Enrollment in the One-Pay option is on the MSB home page, click here. If you have any questions, please contact the WPS Business Office at (978) 692-5560 ext. 2100 or

Westford Flag Football

Westford’s flag football program has been an official NFL Flag Football organization since it was founded in 2004. The league serves the local communities with the strong support of the Westford Recreation Department. The original and continuing mission of the league is to offer local youths a fun alternative to contact football, and operates with the philosophy that “everyone plays” and is given an equal chance to participate.

Westford Flag Football Registration begins online at www.westfordflag.com on May 1st. All ages are welcome!

WA Last Night Donations Needed

Dear Westford Academy Friends,

We hope that this note finds you and your family healthy and safe. As the pandemic continues, so many people have been adversely impacted by the pandemic and our hearts go out to you.

We are writing to you today about the Class of 2022, a group whose high school experience has been badly impacted by the pandemic. It’s been a long journey filled with remote learning, masks, social distancing and events changed or rescheduled due to the pandemic. However, we hope to have the traditional Last Night celebration for them.

Last Night has been celebrated with the WA graduates for over 25 years. The Westford Academy Last Night Committee is determined to do something special for this class that has gone through so much. They deserve it!

So, we will be recognizing the seniors by compiling class memories in a slideshow, giving each senior a WA fleece blanket, putting together their class Photo Walls for their reunions, and having a substance-free overnight celebration with fun activities, entertainment, and a raffle/prize giveaway. To accomplish this, we need your help. Last Night is normally totally funded through generous donations of Westford families and area businesses. Local businesses normally contribute a large percentage of our budget. Donations from individuals are very important this year as the economic challenges facing our local businesses will significantly limit their contributions.

We appreciate your consideration in helping us give to this class. Any amount will help us recognize the Class of 2022. Your support will make all the difference.

Also, if you can please spread the word.

To donate on-line go to http://walastnight.org/donate/ or to donate by mail send your check made payable to WA Last Night to Last Night, PO Box 4079, Westford, MA 01886

Last Night is a 501c3 non-profit and contributions are tax deductible.

Thanks for your support!

Got Sneakers?

Recycle Sneakers and Raise Money for our School

  • Did you know that in the U.S., roughly 200 million pairs of shoes and sneakers end up in landfills each year?

  • Did you know that more than 600 million people worldwide don’t even own a pair of shoes?

The GotSneakers recycling organization will help us to recycle our sneakers! We will ONLY accept athletic sneakers and sports related footwear. Ideally, unused and gently used sneakers will raise the most money for our school. But, if you have sneakers with holes, mold/mildew or detached soles, GotSneakers will take them as well. By participating, you’ll help keep sneakers out of landfills while also putting shoes on the feet of people living in the Caribbean, Central America, South America, West Africa, and Europe. Some of the unusable sneakers will even be made into new athletic surfaces! Your old sneakers will make a huge difference; reducing what we throw away and raising money for our school is a win-win!

Please drop off all donations to the box outside near the Day School’s main entrance doors. We encourage you to bring all non-athletic shoes/boots to the drop-off bin in the St. Catherine’s Church parking lot, to Savers in Nashua, or to other local thrift shops for resale. Thanks so much for your support!
