Day School News

February 15, 2021

Dear Day School Community,

The yearbook committee needs your help to make our yearbook truly special this year. Typically we would use the school portraits from our official school photographer. Although the school photos will be scheduled for later in the spring, we will not have them in time for the yearbook publication deadline. Please help us out by uploading a photo of your child. Directions to submit photos can be found on this link.

We are also looking for candid shots of your child for our yearbook. Some suggestions for candids include:

  • Your child and their school work station at home.

  • Your child holding a piece of art they created.

  • Your child participating in a movement break or physical education activity.

  • Your child making music.

  • Your child reading a book, writing a story, or solving math problems.

Thanks for your help in making our annual school yearbook great! There is still time for fifth graders to submit drawings for the front cover of our yearbook. Deadline for submissions is Friday, February 26.

Sincerely,

Chris Louis Sardella, Principal

Norman E. Day Elementary School

F.A.M.E - Friends Advancing Music Education

Who are we?

F.A.M.E is a non-profit parent volunteer organization that has been supporting music education, through advocacy and fundraising, at all grade levels of Westford Public Schools since 1983. F.A.M.E. ensures opportunities, for both music teachers and students, to enrich their educational environment through a variety of music endeavors.

Music projects funded in the past include:

  • Eagle Scout Project to digitize the Westford Academy music library

  • Headphones for Stony Brook chorus

  • Junior/Senior District Competition transportation

  • Valentine's Day Strings nursing home transportation

  • Music for WA Pep Band & WA Jazz Band

  • Xylophones and whiteboards for elementary schools

  • Music transposition software

Each year, F.A.M.E also awards scholarships to Westford Academy seniors who have participated in the music programs.

Volunteers Needed

Over the past few years, the number of F.A.M.E volunteers has decreased dramatically, therefore F.A.M.E is in danger of not being able to continue the important work that we do. In today’s climate, with budgets being difficult, we are in need of a strong group of volunteers to both advocate to keep our music programs strong and to fundraise to help support our teachers and students. We are looking for K to 12 parents, as well as alumni of the music programs to help out! The time commitment is one meeting per month (via Zoom) during this school year.

Please join us to support our wonderful music programs! We will be holding an information meeting on Tuesday, March 2 from 7 to 8 PM via Zoom. Our immediate need will be to form a scholarship committee to evaluate scholarship applications from the Class of 2021 (sorry….senior parents cannot be part of this committee).

Got Sneakers?

Recycle Sneakers and Raise Money for our School

  • Did you know that in the U.S., roughly 200 million pairs of shoes and sneakers end up in landfills each year?

  • Did you know that more than 600 million people worldwide don’t even own a pair of shoes?

The GotSneakers recycling organization will help us to recycle our sneakers! We will ONLY accept athletic sneakers and sports related footwear. Ideally, unused and gently used sneakers will raise the most money for our school. But, if you have sneakers with holes, mold/mildew or detached soles, GotSneakers will take them as well. By participating, you’ll help keep sneakers out of landfills while also putting shoes on the feet of people living in the Caribbean, Central America, South America, West Africa, and Europe. Some of the unusable sneakers will even be made into new athletic surfaces! Your old sneakers will make a huge difference; reducing what we throw away and raising money for our school is a win-win!

Please drop off all donations to the box outside near the Day School’s main entrance doors. We encourage you to bring all non-athletic shoes/boots to the drop-off bin in the St. Catherine’s Church parking lot, to Savers in Nashua, or to other local thrift shops for resale. Thanks so much for your support!
