Day School News

January 6, 2024

Dear Day School Community,

Happy New Year! We are excited to announce that Day School parent Ashley Korecki has agreed to take the lead for the fifth grade musical. Ashley has been a music teacher for many years before joining our Day School community. Fifth grade families should expect communications soon about the musical. We will also be asking for volunteers to help support the production including management, set design, costumes, etc. Be on the lookout for these volunteer opportunities soon.

We are also thrilled we already have some parents on board to help coordinate our annual yearbook. However, we need many more people to make this happen. Please get in touch with us if you would like to help out. The yearbook will not be possible without the helping hands of many people.

Please become informed about the Westford Public Schools budget. WEPTO is welcoming all Day School parents and guardians to its virtual meeting on Tuesday, January 30 to listen to a presentation by Superintendent Christopher Chew and Town Manager Kristen Las. See details in the PTO section of this newsletter for how to get the virtual link.

Sincerely,

Chris Louis Sardella, Principal

Yearbook Volunteers Needed

The Day School is looking for a group of parent/guardian volunteers to help us with the creation of our yearbook. We have a compnay that has online templates ready to receive our photos and memories. It is always best to have a group of people who are willing to take on different sections of the yearbook. Here are some typical volunteer roles:

We need many people to make our yearbook possible. Please reach out to me ASAP if you would like to get involved so we can get our yearbook off the ground. Since our yearbook is done electronically, much of the work can be done from home at your convenience.

Please contact me by email with your preference for how you would like to help out. I look forward to hearing from you.

Day School Library Wishlist

The Norman E. Day School Library has an Amazon Wishlist! Ms. McGann, our School Librarian, has created an Amazon Wishlist of books consisting of popular and award-winning titles, teacher recommendations, and requests by students. At this time, Ms. McGann is encouraging Parents/Guardians/Caregivers to help build our School Library Collection by donating a book from the List. Once a book has been received, it will be added to the Day School Library Collection and a personalized, permanent bookplate will be added to thank those individuals who donated the book. We greatly appreciate your generosity to our School community and thank you for your continued support.

The Town of Westford Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee along with Westford Public Schools Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee are excited to partner with Community TeamWork (CTI) to screen Jeffrey Robinson’s documentary: Who We Are ~ A Chronicle of Racism in America

WHAT IS THE WHO WE ARE PROJECT?

The Who We Are Project was founded by Jeffery Robinson. The organization is an outgrowth of a talk that Robinson has been giving for the past 10 years on the history of anti-Black racism and white supremacy in the United States. This talk forms the basis of the feature-length documentary film, Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America.

OUR MISSION

The Who We Are Project will be one of the central voices that will correct the narrative on our shared history of anti-Black racism in the United States. The current narrative about the impact of anti-Black racism and white supremacy on the social, legal, political, and economic aspects of our culture in the United States is based on a “re-telling” of history that is incomplete, inaccurate, and misleading. The Who We Are Project will correct this false narrative about U.S. history and provide an objectively true account that exposes the role of white supremacy and anti-Black racism throughout history up to the present. This mission is crucial because reckoning with our true history is the only way for our country to move forward on a path toward racial equity and justice.

Please join us for our community viewing!

Recycle Sneakers and Raise Money for Day School

The GotSneakers recycling organization will help us to recycle our sneakers! We will ONLY accept athletic sneakers and sports related footwear. Ideally, unused and gently used sneakers will raise the most money for our school. But, if you have sneakers with holes, mold/mildew or detached soles, GotSneakers will take them as well. By participating, you’ll help keep sneakers out of landfills while also putting shoes on the feet of people living in the Caribbean, Central America, South America, West Africa, and Europe. Some of the unusable sneakers will even be made into new athletic surfaces! Your old sneakers will make a huge difference; reducing what we throw away and raising money for our school is a win-win!

Please drop off all donations to the box outside near the Day School’s main entrance doors. We encourage you to bring all non-athletic shoes/boots to the drop-off bin in the St. Catherine’s Church parking lot, to Savers in Nashua, or to other local thrift shops for resale. Thanks so much for your support!
