Dear Families,
I can't believe the year is already drawing to a close! Here in fourth grade we have been working hard on our end of year projects, wrapping up assessments, and preparing for our learning celebration. Here's a view into some of that work:
In literacy, we are working on creating high quality work to present our expedition at the Celebration of Learning. We have been exploring the question: How can we make the world a better place? We have written opinion essays about ways we can make a difference and turned these into PSAs to share our messages with the public. Students have researched and learned about a wide variety of topics they care about, including bees, right whales, the Kennebec River, and more.
We are also writing biographies of about historical changemakers from the late 19th and early 20th century, including Frances Perkins, Alice Paul, and Harriet Tubman. We are learning from their example, and exploring how they can inspire us to take action in our own world. We are excited to show you all of this learning on June 11th!
In math, we wrapped up our unit on fractions last week. I hope your child shared with you their end of unit assessment. These came home on Friday. This week we are extending our understanding of fractions to decimals in the tenths and hundredths. We are learning how to read these numbers, compare, and order them on a number line.
In science we are learning about motion and energy transfer. Here you can see us completing a recent experiment about how energy can be stored as height. Students built a marble run and tested it's energy from various heights.
I am so impressed with our class's growth in fourth grade and excited for you to see their progress on their recent NWEA testing. They have worked so hard this year! Below are some pictures of a cup stacking challenge they worked on during Guidance.
All the best,
Meredith Post
