Dear Families,
This week we completed our NWEA testing for reading, language usage and math. They are big tests and I am proud of their hard work and perseverance. Here's some of the other things we are working on in our classroom:
In math, we are continuing to practice multiplication and division. The class has a good grasp of the foundations of both operations and we are now transitioning to the standard algorithm. Also, we learned about multiples and will learn about factors before wrapping up this unit next week.
Our deep sea exploration module continued this week with many different activities! We learned about the sinking of the Titanic and how the submersible Alvin was the first to discover it's location on the sea floor. We also learned about how the Alvin recovered a hydrogen bomb from the Mediterranean Sea in the 1960s. We read about the interesting behaviors of sharks and learned about a shark researcher named Eugenie Clark. The students practiced writing paraphrases of our text and learned about the parts of a summary. We wrote collaborative summaries about a section in our anchor text. We also did our own research about the ocean using book sources on Epic.
Finally, in science we are thinking about animal behavior and how they use their senses. We began an experiment to explore animal senses that we will finish next week.
Below you'll see some fun pictures of the kids from Adventure PE this week. They are getting so good at cross-country skiing. I hope you all enjoy the cold snowy weekend ahead. Thank you so much for your support with helping your kiddos complete their homework each week. I can tell they are getting into the swing of it!
