Dear Families,
The snow made for a fun week at school! The kids enjoyed sledding together on the hill outside. In the classroom we have been hard at work preparing for the learning celebration next Friday and practicing for the winter concert.
In literacy, we nearly done our first module. Next Friday at our learning celebration students will be performing an original poem and sharing what inspired them to write it. We are working on making sure we are reading with fluency-- using appropriate pace and volume to communicate our ideas. We are also writing a four paragraph essay to share about what inspired our poem and where this inspiration is evident in our poem. These essays will be on display at our celebration next week.
Here you can see students working hard writing to write their essays and poems, as well as practice their fluent reading.
In math we learning to multiply multidigit whole numbers. We looked at several strategies for multiplying these this week included repeated addition, place value blocks, area models, and equations. Next week we will build on these to learn about partial products and how to complete the standard algorithm.
In order to do this week efficiently, it's extremely important that fourth graders be automatic with their multiplication facts. I am resending this letter about homework to remind everyone that they should be practicing these at home every night. You can find a list of ways to practice at this link. Thank you for your help reminding your children to practice nightly and holding them accountable for this important work.
We are so excited to show you our learning next week! I look forward to seeing you all at the concert and Learning Celebration. Have a great weekend!
