CHSAthai Stray Animal Shelter Visit

December 20, 2018 at Saraburi, Thailand

Activity & Service:

Grade 10 was my first year as a K9 Club leader. The club consists of three leaders, my friend Riddhi, my senior Annie, and me. Our club's main purpose is to raise awareness for less fortunate dogs. We construct booths on school events as well as sell K9 merchandises such as shirts and stickers to earn profit so that we could raise funds for the CHSAthai Stray Animal Shelter. CHSAthai is a non-profit organization founded by a family in Saraburi, a northern province in Thailand. They are in need of help because they have around 2,000 stray animals that they have to care for.

On December 20, 2018, our club hosted a one day field trip to visit CHSAthai Animal Shelter in Saraburi, Thailand. While we were there, we played with lots of dogs. It was such a great feeling because the dogs get so excited when they see us. Our team took a tour around the shelter since 9 in the morning till 5 in the evening.

CAS Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate that a new challenge has been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

  • Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

    • I've always been familiar with seeing stray dogs because I have been living in Bangkok for my whole life. During the trip, I've experienced for the first time what it is like to be in an animal shelter. I saw the world in a different perspective, as staff members work hard to feed the dogs and take care of the sick animals. It was challenging for me to be in the sick animal's zone because I feel like sorry for them. I developed new communication skills because I had to communicate with the owner of the shelter, teachers, co-leaders as well as K9 members.

Animal Week: K9 Club

March 12, 2019 at Wells International School

CAS Learning Outcomes:

    • Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

      • From this event, I realized that working together helps benefit

Service:

At Wells, the school holds an annual 'Animal Week'. The animal clubs at our school pick a day in the week to raise funds for animals. Tuesday was our K9 Club's day.

For this year's Animal Week, the leaders and our amazing advisors, Mr. Chase and Ms. Vallary, helped the club contact and bring in 4 puppies from CHSAthai Stray Animal Shelter. The K9 Club set up photographers and videographers to record our progress and work in Animal Week. Working together to set up booths and games, we were able to raise funds and set up a donation box for the shelter who kindly bought their puppies.
