The AHIMSA Run was the second run I'd ever done before, and was far more strenous than the first since instead of laps around a school yard participants had to run laps around a park. There were options for 3km, 6km, and 9km. With this being the second run I'd ever completed I decided to be ambitious within the realms of reality and chose to run 6km (two laps around the entire park).
This run in particular was mentioned by a Wells teacher, and I gladly jumped at the opportunity to run once more, this time in support of peace, a value I believe is often neglected in today's time, replaced by greed and materialism.
The run itself was, as expected, tiring. I had taken on more than last time, and although it wasn't as hot I was running a longer distance than before. During the run I felt quite exhilarated and rather enjoyed the park's scenery. The exhilaration did wear off about halfway through the 6km, but I felt quite tranquil surrounded by the nature.
The major difficulty I had to overcome was my lack of stamina, and I found myself walking the final half of my second round since I'd lost feelings in my legs but was still determined to finish it. Upon completion I'd felt this experience was successful since I committed to finishing what I had intended to, and was able to do so, I also felt accomplished that my participation in this event was raising funds to go towards helping those who were less fortunate, and do not have the liberty to live a comfortable life due to political turmoil.
Learning experiences:
Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth - I feel that one of my strengths is the perseverance I had to finishing the run, however I could definitely see room for improvement in my overall stamina.
Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences - Although I had already felt tired by the end of the 3km I forced myself to finish the 6km I had signed up for.
Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance - I had partially joined the race because peace and non-violence in our society are core values of mine and even if it may have only been a small contribution by making the payment to attend, I know it works towards a larger, overarching goal.
