Wallkill Valley Regional High School's Night in the Spotlight

Prom is the night where teenagers come together and enjoy a night full of dancing and fun. For most, it is probably the most important night throughout high school life! It's a night of enchantment for all attending.

Here at Wallkill Valley Regional High School, we take pride in our proms. With Hollywood as our theme, the Ranger’s prom is being hosted at the Crystal Emerald Ballroom on May 23rd. That means extravagant and lavish. A night full of glam, lights, and music. Everyone, smile for the paparazzi!

Prom Attire

Prom attire is considered formal. Attendees must wear appropriate dress like tuxedos, suits, formal dresses,  or dress shirts that include a tie or bow tie.  You want to look your best at prom, so consider matching the occasion with your partner! Prom is a special occasion for teens, so you should dress the part. It is a red carpet affair, after all.

Accessories may also be the staple of your look.  Jewelry, bracelets, and hair accessories can enhance your look entirely and present a beautiful statement piece that ties your look together, while having the envy of others. Add some extra shine with those accessories!

Where to Shop

Opportunities for finding the right look are endless. While shopping online seems to be the "go to" approach, don't discount some of the local small and big businesses.  Hey, some might even have talent as a seamstress and fabricate their own unique dress.

History of Prom

The history of prom roots back to the 18th and 19th century Debutante balls! The concept of 'prom' was created by Otto Rohwedders. Prom is short for promenade ' A formal introductory parading with bunches of guests at one big celebratory party ' It began in the mid 1800's at colleges and universities to engage students to use social etiquette and manners throughout graduating classes!

Way different from what we know of our proms today. In the earlier days, prom was this huge tea party that took place at the college/university gym as a way to practice students' social etiquette and just to socialize with other students in their class. Over the years, prom has evolved into a more elaborate, extravagant, and elegant dance since the mid 1800's. Today, our prom is known as a send-off celebratory event for high school juniors and seniors!
