This year the Wallkill Valley Drama Club will be putting on a performance of the well known musical, "Catch Me If You Can." This show follows Frank Abagnale Jr. on his journey of fraud and con-work. He becomes rich through many crimes such as pretending to pursue occupations in which he has no experience or degree behind. In addition to Frank's story, we also learn the story of Agent Hanratty, the FBI agent investigating Frank's crimes. As the story progresses, the audience is introduced to many characters that truly bring the show together.
Although the characters tend to be the most recognizable in the performance, it truly is the entire cast that makes a show. Recently, The Valley Voice had the opportunity to interview the five incredibly talented individuals who are taking on the main roles of this show. It offered some insight into how they feel about their characters, cast, and the musical overall.
Hi! My name is Joshua Mendez and I'm this year's drama club president, choir president, and a lead in this year's musical. The show this year is based off a true story about a young man who steals millions of dollars from the U.S government and gets away with it for many years, until he's finally caught and given a second chance to work with the FBI to try and stop check fraud and money laundering once and for all. My character is Frank Abagnale Jr., the man who committed all of these crimes. He was only 15 years old when he started making fake checks and was caught at the age of 21. When he was caught, he only had to serve ten years in prison before he was offered a job from the FBI. He worked with them for over 40 years, making millions of dollars, finally paying off his debt, and finally settling down and retiring. I recommend seeing our show to see the full story and how it plays out! We hope to see you there!
Greetings, I am Jesse Diribe, and I am thrilled to announce my role as Agent Hanratty in this year's production of "Catch Me If You Can." While the show won't be gracing our familiar home stage, the prospect of a new venue adds an exhilarating touch to my excitement. I extend my sincere best wishes to my fellow co-stars, and I want to express my gratitude to Addison Smith, a reporter for The Valley Voice, for providing me with this incredible opportunity to share my thoughts. As we embark on this theatrical journey, let us collectively strive to make this year an unparalleled success. May the stage be a canvas for our artistry, where our performances resonate with the audience and create lasting memories . Here's to an extraordinary production!!! I'm eager to see the magic we will collectively bring to the stage. Let the curtain rise on what promises to be our most outstanding year yet!
