The Cheerleaders are off to a great season!
Cheerleading is a great sport offered at Wallkill. As part of the team, cheerleaders can be involved with so many activities and fun football games. Activities include pep rallies, car washes to raise money for bows and other cheer attire needed and the opportunity to attend the UCA camp and being part of a great group of girls. This year, Wallkill has both a varsity and JV team. In addition, there are two cheer coaches and two captains for each team. Coach Tonya Fleezer and Coach Bobbi Formica have worked with all the girls since July in hopes of creating a positive, productive season. Our Varsity captains include seniors Keeley Korger and Olivia Messinger while sophomores Nadhya Morales and Melanie Algarin lead the JV team. Captains have the unique responsibility of going over cheers, choreographing routines, and deciding on hairstyles. Fridays are reserved for cheer attire. Most of the time, the teams wear their uniforms, but some Fridays, leggings or sweatpants are the way to go.
The girls had a lot of unique things to say about their cheer experience and why they decided to cheer.
Varsity captain Keeley Korger stated, " I enjoy cheering for Wallkill and I have so much fun!" Maddisyn Ross who has been cheering for 10 years agrees, "I like cheer a lot! It takes a lot more dedication and athleticism than people would think."
If you are interested in Cheer, tryouts take place in May for the following school year. Practices begin in July!
