We will achieve this by:

Checking our work when we have finished: is it my best effort?
Making sure we understand what the instructions are by listening to the teacher
Making small goals we can reach for and achieve in our work and reaching for them
Taking a photo of the work we are proud of during the week and submitting it to go on Hero for our caregivers to see
Trying again and again with something hard
Talking to others and getting their feedback on how you are going with your work
Knowing that sometimes we don’t know things or can’t do things well - YET - but we keep trying
Making sure I check the success criteria and my work matches it. Then celebrate when it does!!

The quality of our work will improve and we will put more photos of our work we are proud of on Hero
Our whānau will be proud of the work we have completed
We will feel happy and proud of ourselves and our work
We will check we know what we should do for our learning

Get out your MANA book, a pen or a pencil, a ruler (you may have to borrow one) and be ready to go!

Identify the key points in non-fiction articles
Summarise the key points in our own words in the correct order
Locate and summarise ideas by skimming or scanning, by identifying key words, topic sentences and key questions, or by using subheadings
Identify parts of a newspaper article (like headline, byline)

Create:

Pick the correct day and go into the slide deck
Choose your article - what type? It is is in the name of the link :-)
Write up your key points and summarise
Who is your audience? Remember, they have not read this article and need to know all the key points about what happened.
If you need a reminder as to how to make a link for your headline, watch the video to the left.

Evaluating - what is it?

We are looking at evaluation. That's a big word for making a judgement about something and explaining why you think that way. You do it all day every day, but did you know it is a great strategy to use when you are reading?

Watch the video about evaluation. It is 11 minutes long. Take your time, don't skip bits. You need to listen carefully.

In your reading book, take notes of the important points in the video. These will need to be handed in to show me you KNOW what evaluating means.

Choose a book that you are going to read from start to finish - each and every page. Not just look at the pictures!

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR YOUR GROUP. Do the create work it asks you to do. If you need help creating, wait for the teacher to help. In the meantime - do the following work:
TIMES TABLE ONLINE - complete all the activities (before you practice using the games) for the 6 times table.
PROTOTEC - Start at STAGE 6. Try to get at least 90% correct, keep on trying!
MATHS BUDDY - MUST FINISH ALL the lessons. If it says continue to next lesson - you continue. There is MORE THAN ONE lesson!
WORKSHEETS - will be given to you by Whaene Vicki when you come up to her. These are to be done STRAIGHT AWAY if you get one.
MATHS BUDDY - Weekly Review. Use Google and your friends to work out the answers!

Whaene Vicki will call your group up to work with her during this time.

Word problems are hard to solve but only because the equations you have to do to solve them (which you KNOW how to do) aren't simply written in front of you. You have to figure out what numbers are important, what you have to do, write the equations and solve it. PHEW!

Learning to Type

Using our chromebooks, we need to practice our typing. Whaene Vicki can type WITHOUT looking! This is called touch typing. You have to practice a lot to get to that stage, but you can get better and USE MORE THAN ONE FINGER if you practice just a little bit!

Bike Skills

We had a great day practicing our bike skills and learning how to stay safe on the road.

Our brief: To create a slideshow we can show the middle school on how to ride on the road safely. All the things we learned. We need to use clear language they can understand and lots of pictures from our photos we took.
