Health savings accounts (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) both let you set aside money before it's been taxed to pay for health care costs.
A Flexible Spending Account is an employee benefit that allows you to set aside money from your paycheck, pre-tax, to pay for healthcare and dependent care expenses.
Unlike a Health Savings Account (HSA), an FSA is not administered by your health insurance.
However, it can still help you save money on income taxes.
A Health Savings Account (HSA) is an investment account available only to members who are enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) under the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program.
In order to purchase with HSA/FSA, customers need to show a Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN).
It is basically a document that says that the doctor feels that the customers need an air purifier because they have asthma or any other relevant health condition. Then, how it works is that a customer selects that they want that payment in the checkout.
2. Attach the letter during checkout from their doctor or click the LOMN option.
2.1. This will ask them a brief set of questions and they can move forward and conduct the transaction.
What happens on the backend is that the checklist goes directly to a healthcare provider that generates the LOMN.
2.2. If the information doesn't check out, then the person is contacted to submit an alternative form of payment.
If it does go through, then nothing else happens.
Note: The LOMN is good for 1 year so they can keep coming back and using it.
We currently have it set up so that all our products including HVAC filters are HSA/FSA eligible.
That may change since generating the LOMN costs Medify $30 per customer (1 x fee every year per customer if they use the LOMN feature.
This is for our internal information only and no need to be discussed with the customers)
Tax Savings:
Using pre-tax HSA or FSA dollars essentially lowers the total cost of your air purifier. Rather than paying out of pocket with after-tax funds, you utilize money set aside specifically for medical expenses. This approach reduces your tax burden and can result in substantial long-term savings.
Health Benefits:
Medify Air purifiers contain True HEPA H13/H14 filters that remove 99.9% of airborne particulates down to 0.1 microns.
Many health care professionals recommend an air purifier to help manage symptoms and add to their patient’s care plan.
Using your HSA or FSA funds is a great way to make all your medical related purchases more affordable.
If your doctor recommends an air purifier to help manage a health condition, using HSA or FSA funds can make a medically necessary purchase more affordable.
Seamless Payment Process:
Medify Air’s partnership with Flex ensures a streamlined checkout experience.
Once your medical necessity is confirmed, you can easily pay with your HSA or FSA card, making it both convenient and cost-effective.
Check Your Eligibility
Before you begin, talk with your doctor about your ailment and if an air purifier would be beneficial.
Prevalent conditions are typically respiratory illnesses but can even include pregnancy and sleep disorders.
Common scenarios include managing asthma, seasonal allergies, or other ongoing respiratory issues.
Your healthcare provider can determine if an air purifier is appropriate for your condition.
Obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN):
Air purifiers are considered a dual use product, which means you can only purchase with your HSA/FSA if you obtain a LOMN from your doctor.
The LOMN document states that the air purifier is essential for treating or managing your condition. Without a LOMN, your insurance will not approve the HSA/FSA transaction
Submit Your LOMN & Complete Purchase:
Medify Air, in partnership with Flex makes it easy to submit your LOMN and purchase your air purifier.
If you already have your LOMN from your healthcare provider, you can attach it during the checkout process and use your HSA/FSA card.
If you do not have a LOMN, don’t worry. Thanks to Flex, you can fill out a simple form which will be sent to a health care provider for verification.
You can still enter your HSA/FSA card and finalize the purchase.
The form you fill out will be verified by insurance and finalized.
If your LOMN is denied then you will be contacted to submit an alternative form of payment.
