We’re thrilled to announce an exciting new incentive for our K-3 students! 🎉
Here’s how it works:
Individual Student Goals: Each student will receive their own End-of-Year (EOY) composite goal card. Be sure to review these with your kiddos so they understand exactly what they’re working toward.
The Rewards:
🎯 Students who meet their EOY composite goal or remain at/above the benchmark will earn:
A fun pizza party! 🍕
A free dress pass to redeem on the day of their choice! 🧑🎤
But that’s not all!

Exciting New ZEARN Incentive Starting Monday, January 6!
In addition to the existing ZEARN rewards, we're adding new incentives to encourage students to complete their lessons! Here's how it works:
When: Starting Monday, January 6
Who: To be considered for the incentive, each class in each grade will need a minimum of 80% of their students to complete 3 or more on-grade level lessons each week. The class that has the most on-level lessons completed, with at least 80% of its students completing the lessons, will earn an extra snack from the snack cart each week.
If there is a week in pacing where only 2 lessons are taught, you will need to assign another on-level lesson during that week.
The Math teacher of the winning class will also be treated to a snack and drink from the teacher cart as a special thank you for their hard work and dedication.
We hope this new incentive will inspire even more learning and fun in the classroom! Let's get ready to make the most of ZEARN!!
Please note: We will continue recognizing HRs and updating the Zearn board each week. 😊 This process will remain the same!
NEW AR Reading Incentive Starting January 6 – Let’s Get Excited! 📚🎉
We’re kicking off the second half of the year with a fun and motivating AR reading challenge! Each week, we’ll be tracking the progress of every homeroom in AR reading, and the class with the highest AR points earned in a week in each grade level will earn some awesome rewards! 🎯
The winning students will get an extra snack from the snack cart 🍪, and the reading teachers will get to pick a treat and drink from the teacher cart! 🥤🎉
Let’s hit the ground running and make reading a top priority—together, we can make this a fun and exciting challenge that encourages everyone to read more, earn points, and have a blast doing it! 🚀 Let’s go, team! 📖🌟
Please note: We will continue recognizing students and updating the AR point board each week as they advance through the levels. 😊 This process will remain the same!

Shout-out to the absolutely amazing PBIS team, Kyla, Dana, Lauren, Andrea, Karlee, Brittni, Lexi, and Mary for putting together an AWESOME HoeDown! 🎉 You all went above and beyond to make this event special, from the super fun Christmas games to the line dancing, coloring, face tattoos, and so much more! 🎄✨ Thank you for dedicating your time after school to plan, organize, and create such a memorable experience for our kiddos. They definitely earned it with their hard work and showing our PBIS expectations! 🙌 Your effort truly made their day, and we are beyond grateful for everything you did to make it happen! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! 💖
A big shout-out to Stacey Church for organizing not one, but TWO amazing days of concerts for our PreK-5 students! 🎶👏 Your hard work and dedication truly paid off, as the concerts were an absolute hit! Our students performed beautifully, and we had a fantastic turnout of parents, making the events even more special. 🙌 Thank you, Stacey, for your endless energy, passion for music, and commitment to our students. Your guidance and care helped them shine, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all the time and effort you put into making these concerts such a success! 🌟
A HUGE congratulations to the one and only Ms. Samantha Touchet for being named Support Person of the Year at Cecil Picard Elementary! 🎉🎉 Samantha goes ABOVE AND BEYOND in everything she does, ensuring our little ones are taken care of in and out of the cafeteria with a smile and heart full of dedication. Her hard work and commitment to our students never go unnoticed, and we are incredibly thankful for all she does every single day! 🌟 We couldn’t be more proud of you, Samantha – this recognition is so well deserved! THANK YOU for everything you do to make CPE such a wonderful place! You truly make a difference in the lives of our students, and we’re lucky to have you as part of our team! Keep shining! ✨ 🎊🎉
Raptor & Lockdown
Our next Lockdown drill will be January 27. All staff should have received the new password in a sealed envelope. Please note, communication will continue through our group me platform, not google chat- that is a typo on the sheet. Please ensure you have your roster.
*NEW* If you are out and have a substitute in your class, Subs will need to text a picture of your roster to me & Mary to account for the class during a crisis situation/ lockdown. Please let Mary or I know if you have any questions or concerns.
Accountability form when a sub is in your room
Our goal is to get 100% of students and staff accounted for during these drills. All staff are able to search for students and staff to see who has not been accounted for by sorting the list.
Raptor App- troubleshooting
1) Account for yourself first, then your location
2) When you update accountability for your students, you can only do one status at a time.
A common question has been asked about the drill's conclusion:
Is the drill over when the announcement is made that partial lockdown is over, over the intercom?
The drill ends when you hear the announcement: "Partial lockdown has ended/is over." over the intercom. Remember, when that announcement is made over the intercom, someone has already been to your classroom, given you the password, identified themself to you, unlocked your door, and has put your room on partial lockdown from lockdown. Please note, from feedback from Mr. Brooks, we should not state the password over the intercom.

Shouting out our amazing DIBELS team this week—Christi, Lauren, Cristi T, Nicole, and Andrea! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to ensure students were tested with fidelity. I know the connection in the gym wasn’t perfect, but I truly appreciate everyone staying positive and making sure the testing process was a success for our students. We appreciate each of you so much! A special thank you to Mrs. Christi, Mrs. Jeannie, and Mrs. Lisa for organizing and planning this day to make sure everything went smoothly. Your hard work made all the difference! #ThankYou #CPEFamily
There will be a balloon on my mailbox to help you spot the house! It can be a bit tricky to find, but once you pass the Heritage Point neighborhood coming from CPE, I’m on the right, just a little further down. Look for the white house in the back! We’re looking forward to seeing you!
Additional Important Information
Raptor & Lockdown
We successfully completed our lockdown drill in 18 minutes, even with 14 people out and phone lines down! Great job, everyone, for working together. Each time we conduct a drill, we see more and more progress. Communicate was clear through the groupme APP! Good job asking questions & staying attentive as questions came through on that platform! Mrs. Mary & I did receive pictured texts of rosters from Subs. This helped us account for those students quickly. Thank you for adding this additional step to your rooms this past week. We are proud of everyone's commitment to ensuring student safety and accountability. Thank you!!! As we continue to do any drill, our goal each time is to account for all students and staff.
We have been notified that the password will need to be reset. Mr. Brooks and Mr. Scott recommend placing the new password in a sealed envelope and attaching it to your crisis plan. The envelope should remain sealed until the next lockdown.
Next week, we will distribute these envelopes to your boxes with the updated password. Please attach them to your crisis plans. Thank you your assistance with this!

Additional Important Information
Support Person of the Year!
If you did not already, please take a moment to vote for Support Person of the Year! The survey closes on Monday, December 9, at noon.
Support Person of the Year form
Dibels will take place on Monday, December 9th. Please be sure that all of your students know how they did on the last progress monitoring and what they are working towards to meet their goal for DIBELS. K-2 teachers, once your students are finished with Dibels, please make sure you update and send your reading SLT to your evaluator.
Attached is the schedule of approximate times, but please wait until someone comes get your class. They will sit in 2nd grade hall again. Please have a book for them to look at while they wait, but have them leave it in the hall when they come to test.
Every student must have an ID or name tag. If you have to put them a name tag-please write their name and the teacher's name. Please write names of students absent on Monday on the sheet by the gym door. Remember no one is supposed to be in the gym unless they have been security trained.
Mrs. Christi plans on Maze testing on Thursday. She will get with you all to find a time that works.
Testing Schedule: DIBELS schedule
Raptor & Lockdown
We will hold a district practice lockdown drill using Raptor on Friday, December 13th. It is extremely important that you review lockdown procedures with your students this week. We will follow the same accountability procedures through Raptor as we do for a fire drill.
*NEW* If you are out and have a substitute in your class, Subs will need to text a picture of your roster to me & Mary to account for the class during a crisis situation/ lockdown. Please let Mary or I know if you have any questions or concerns. The blank roster form will be placed in your boxes on Monday. Please hand write or make a copy of the form and type your students names and have it attached to your sub plans moving forward. We know this is different, but we are trying to find a solution for communicating with subs during emergency drills. Thank you for your flexibility and assistance with this!
We will utilize groupme to communicate during the drill. If we are having a difficult time accounting for students in the Raptor app, we will utilize groupme to try to find and communicate who is missing. This is a learning process for us all, and we appreciate everyone being patient as we navigate each drill together! Thank you!!
High School Band Visits
The High School band is coming to play a few Christmas songs for the 5th grade band students on Monday, December 16th, from 9:30-10:00. When they arrive, we will call for the band students to report to dining hall. 🎄
Accommodation log Audit
Our Sped coordinator, Ms. Chrystal Abshire, will be visiting our school this week to review student accommodation logs in connection with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). She will be looking for correct accommodations and correlation of assignments in JCAMPUS and those recorded. If a student's accommodations have changed due to their modified IEP, please make certain the logs reflect that change. If you have any specific questions or need assistance regarding the IEPs, accommodations, or the visit, feel free to let us know! We are here to help with any related information or preparation.

BCBS
BCBS has a new Wellness Program Portal available. Employees registering must enter their first and last names EXACTLY as it appears on their BCBS Member ID Card. When entering the member ID do not include the three letters in front of the numbers. There is a "support" button at the bottom of the registration page if anyone has any difficulties. Anyone who registers on the portal and completes the Health Assessment will receive a free dress day. It takes about 5-10 minutes. Please email Jill Broussard once you have completed the Health Assessment. The portal has a "points" page, however, the district is not using a point incentive program again this year so this is something staff can enter if they want to keep it for a personal basis. There are ways to challenge friends in the Blue Wellness Portal if you want to add some fun with friends in staying healthy.
BCBS also offers Blue365 which offers standing discounts from top-name national vendors. This is not a new offer with BCBS, just a reminder of the discounts. You can sign up for weekly emails with special time-limited offers you can take advantage of at the moment.

Assistance in the Classrooms
We are pleased to introduce a new system for requesting assistance in the classroom, designed to streamline communication and ensure that support is provided efficiently and effectively. These new steps aim to enhance our collaborative efforts and improve overall classroom management. It will also allow Admin to dedicate the appropriate amount of time to effectively implement the new LEADS evaluation system.
1. Please utilize your classroom behavior plan including interventions, positive reinforcements, and consequences (other than conduct marks) before calling for assistance.
2. The following order will be used for assistance in the behavior chat:
Sara
Monica
Mrs. Lisa
Mrs. Jeannie
Admin
3. A debrief will be conducted at a later time to find what interventions were used, which ones were successful, and which ones need to be adjusted. You may have noticed in the chats we started to implement this process this past week! Please be patient as we implement this new process. Thank you!
Contract Staff
We are excited to announce that we are in the process of hiring two contract staff members to assist our students with Individual Academic Support Plans (IASP). Once the positions are finalized, we will share more information on how they will support these students!

Discipline Focus
One of our goals this year is to decrease the number of Discipline referrals. It is crucial that we consistently and actively reinforce the expectations we want to see in our students. By emphasizing positive behavior and acknowledging when students meet or exceed these expectations, we can create a more supportive and productive learning environment. This approach not only helps to reduce negative behaviors but also strengthens our classroom communities, making them places where all students can thrive. Let’s work together to make this year one where positive reinforcement leads to a more respectful and engaged student body.
Ways to reinforce expectations- through your classroom management plan, dojo points, chain links, praise, cool-cash, shout-outs, positive notes/ calls home, etc.
If you’re dealing with a student or class behavior issue and need ideas for interventions, a great resource is PBIS World. It’s an excellent website for strategies and tools to address common & major misbehaviors in the classroom.
Discipline Update
August 2023- 17 Major Office Referrals
August 2024- 9 Major Office Referrals
Decrease of 8. WIN!
We are starting the year in the right direction! Keep up the great work!

Compulsory Attendance
According to the BESE Rulemaking docket, revisions to attendance definitions were adopted by BESE on 7/20/24.
These revisions specifically define 3 types of absences. This is state law: La. Admin. Code tit. 28 § CXV-1105.
Our district handbook will need to be revised and reposted once we bring the changes to our VPSB Board Meeting on 8/15/24.
Please read the Compulsory Attendance law definitions of Excused, Unexcused and Suspensions carefully. Parent notes for illnesses are not acceptable as "Excused Absences" unless the absence falls under the parameters defined by "Excused Absences or Extenuating Circumstances", however, such absences do require specific documentation and approval by the principal or designee.
Biggest Change: Parent notes are still unexcused however now they count towards truancy. In the past they did not.

Additional Information
Staff, as some of you are aware, we no longer have our contract janitors. Trecia, James, Darrell, and Cameron met with me this week to adjust schedules. Moving forward, the janitors will not unlock/open doors in the morning.
PreK and K teachers, please have your students pick up their chairs at the end of the day. Some of you already do this, but I would like it consistent across the two grade levels. This will help tremendously. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
Gates
If you are the last person on campus, please ensure the gates are closed properly. Below is a picture of how they should be locked. If you have questions about this, do not hesitate to reach out.
August 13 CPT
The topic for this has been adjusted. Brittany Broussard will be attending all day and will meet with all grade levels Prek-5th on technology questions concerns/ assistance. She will go over anything you may need assistance with & she will tailor it to fit what you need. Come to C19 prepared with questions (google classroom, using your ipads, GoGuardian, creating assessments, utilizing your boards, etc.)
Mrs. Lisa will be coming around to go over 504 & LEP plans the first few days of school.
Chats
Everyone should have received an invite to join the CPE faculty and staff google chat. Please do not post in this chat unless it is an emergency. This chat will be used to communicate crisis/ lockdown situations. It will not be meant for everyday messaging. ***If you did not receive an invite, try these steps, IF the steps do not work, please email me. --> go to Google Mail(gmail), then on the left side click "chat", next look down on the left column and click "spaces", you'll see a chat labeled *CPE Faculty & Staff", click it, then click "all new messages".
The CPE Groupme app can be a source of communication; however, please be considerate when posting. We want this space to stay positive and helpful! If you are unsure of something, have a concern about the school, or need to ask an admin a question, please contact me by email or text. If, after communicating with you, I feel that it needs to be shared with all staff, I will do so.
In PD this week, we will be creating a few different chats for communication (behavior, sick, janitors). I have blocked off time for us to all do this together and create the groups. This is truly to help streamline how we communicate through our school. I know this is a transition year for everyone, but please stay with me. I want you guys to get what you need and the right people getting the information so things can be addressed quickly & effectively.

Let’s spread the love and show them how much they mean to our community! You can complete the form as many times as you would like to someone who has had a positive impact on your child.
