I teach 8th grade American History, 9th grade World History, and various H.S. Social studies electives. I am in my 20th year teaching in Walnut Township Schools, and my 40th year teaching, overall. My previous teaching assignments were in Indiana and Michigan in private school education.
I received my Bachelor degree from Asbury University, and my Masters Degree from the University of Detroit.
We moved every 4 years when I was growing up (or sometimes less as my parents were officers/pastors in the Salvation Army.) I was born in beautiful Manistee, Michigan, but we have also lived in Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana. I graduated H.S. at Crestwood H.S. in Dearborn Heights Michigan.
Things I love outside of my school life are spending time with our growing family. We have four adult children, three of which are married, and 6 grandchildren. I have always been involved with and enjoyed music. I have eclectic interests in music listening and I play piano (rather poorly) and euphonium in various ensembles over the years. I enjoy gardening and yard work, as well as making furniture and crafts in my woodshop. I also enjoy coaching basketball, and I have coached both girls and boys basketball in my career and at Millersport H.S.
I love teaching and coaching (JV Boys basketball) because I am called to make a difference in young people's lives. This has its foundation in my Christian faith life. I believe we can all make a difference a person's life if we are attentive to where they are in their life experiences. I always want to be an encourager and one who lifts others up.
I have thoroughly enjoyed taking students to Europe's great cities and experiencing the cultural diversity they have to offer. It's hard to choose my favorite destination, but there is always Paris...and Barcelona...and Madrid. What great adventures we've had together!
The most rewarding thing to me is seeing our graduates go on to make their way in life, experiencing success in their chosen field, as well as building a happy life. Teaching in Walnut Township has been extremely rewarding in this respect over the last 20 years!
