Overview
SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) is a research-based foundational skills program proven to help both new and struggling readers in grades K–12, including English learners and students identified with dyslexia.
The program’s systematic scope and sequence provides a structured-literacy approach to instruction through explicit routines focused on phonological awareness, spelling-sounds, and sight words.
When used as Tier 2 and Tier 3, SIPPS accelerates progress so that students are able to efficiently close the gap and engage in grade-level reading. (Collaborative Classroom)
Using current and/or iReady Diagnostic data, students will be placed into skill groups depending on highest level of need.
A program-specific placement assessment provides the data needed to group students with similar decoding needs. Periodic mastery tests help teachers monitor student progress and support the teachers in decision-making around pacing and reteaching.

Materials and Instruction
SIPPS Teacher's Editions and materials (cards, posters) are provided by WKLE's ELA Coaches.
SIPPS instructional modeling and training may be provided by ELA Coach or interventionist.
Each TE includes lessons which typically are completed within 20 minutes. Each lesson is very scripted and should be followed as directed in the TE.
Lessons and routines remain consistent throughout weeks of instruction.
Mastery assessments are included in the TE's after every 4 lessons and should be used as a bi-weekly data point.
How to document student learning
Use the following progress monitoring template to track student attendance and bi-weekly progress.
How to share my analysis of student progress
Upload your Tier 2 Data into EdInsight after assessment. Be sure to include notes as to what benchmark or skill has been taught. How to Upload Data into EdInsight can be found here.
In uploading to EdInsight, you are sharing student progress; be prepared to discuss student data during MTSS meetings or parent conferences.
