Leveled Literacy Intervention System
Leveled Literacy Intervention System
The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System(LLI) is an intensive, small-group, supplementary literacy intervention for students who find reading and writing difficult (F&P, 2022).
Students receiving intervention through LLI should take an initial F&P Benchmark Assessment to determine the best starting point within the gradient scale (see Figure 6).
It is possible that a DRA Level will indicate an initial starting point for LLI resources, see Figure 5. Consult with your instructional coach.

Materials and Instruction
LLI System components include:
Leveled books
System and Lesson Guides
Prompting Guides
Student Take-Home resources
Teacher's Editions and materials will be provided to classroom teachers by ELA Coaches and are stored in the front office Resource Room.
Daily lessons should take approximately 25-30 minutes. Depending on grade level and program, it may take more than one instructional period to complete an LLI lesson.
LLI instruction should occur in a small group with a maximum of 4 students in the intermediate grades.
How to document student learning
Use the following progress monitoring template to track student attendance and bi-weekly progress.
How to share my analysis of student progress
Upload your Tier 2 Data into EdInsight after assessment. Be sure to include notes as to what benchmark or skill has been taught. How to Upload Data into EdInsight can be found here.
In uploading to EdInsight, you are sharing student progress; be prepared to discuss student data during MTSS meetings or parent conferences.
