Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, addresses the relation of social factors and individual thought and behavior in regards to pain. This includes fear, avoidance, distress, and anxiety. CBT trains patients utilizing behavioral techniques to help modify situational factors and cognitive processes that exacerbate pain. CBT helps the patient engage in being active, learn relaxation techniques and coping strategies. CBT also includes support groups, professional counseling, or other self-help programs.
