JCARC April 2024 Fishing Derby

The date was Saturday, April 27, 2024 and we held our second fishing derby. The 2023 derby, our very first, had a total of 30 contestants, but in this one we had 47. It was a rather cold day and the fish weren't biting all that well, but we all had a great time, anyway.

Here are the winners of the most fish caught in the youth and adult categories. To the left (above if you're looking on a cell phone) is Luna Denny with 7 fish caught (tablet purchased by our club). To the right (or below) is Pat Reynard with a total of 8 fish caught. Amazing...wonder what their secrets were?

We'd like to thank Strohl's Appliance and Electronics/Radio Shack of Portland, Indiana for supplying some amazing prizes. Click here to visit their website.

Abram Oban during the day is just an unassuming guy that you'd pass in a WalMart or other places and probably never even notice him. But during our fishing derby, he was awesome! He beat the second largest catch by almost two inches, hooking his 19 1/2 inch fish. We had no idea there were fish in the lake that large. And to top it off, he won all of the fishing poles, tackle, and cooler you see here. Congrats, Abram!

Thanks to all who attended and volunteered. We all had a great time. We also had some of the emergency service vehicles and personnel come to our event and yep, they got a free meal. We were serving hot dogs, chips, and  a drink. The hot dogs were donated by Fisher's Meat Market in Portland...click here to visit their website. We thank them very much for their generous donation. We'd also like to give thanks to Advanced Auto Parts and O'Reily Auto Parts in Portland along with many others that we'll have the links and info for on our next page update. We also had dozens of door prizes from places like McDonald's and Pizza Hut. We had a box of Gatorade drink cups that we just handed out to those that wanted them.

A huge thanks to Mitch Harter and his DJ crew that provided music and announcements, created a Facebook page and created the flyers.

Here are photos that were taken of some of our emergency services personnel and the EMS vehicle. Just hit the left or right arrows to see the next photo. Thanks guys!
