Jay County Amateur Radio Club, Inc.

About Us

The Jay County Amateur Radio Club, Inc. is located in Portland, Indiana, USA and serves the Amateur Radio Community as well as the public interest. Our open repeaters may be used by any licensed amatuer that has privileges to operate on our repeater frequencies shown on the home page on this site and are available for Emergency Communications in East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio whenever necessary. Emergency events always take precedence over personal use so during those times, we ask that you keep the repeaters clear of personal communications.

Although our meetings and repeaters are open to all, we do appreciate all who are attending or using our repeaters on a regular basis to join our club to help support our efforts. Current membership dues for the primary member are $50 per year with up to four secondary amateur licensed household family members just $10 per year*. If necessary, you can take an option of $25 for each 6 months. We also have an associate membership for $25 per year. Rates are subject to change. The money goes to maintain repeaters and insurance that not only covers our repeater sites, but in events in which we participate. We also have maintenance, insurance, and licensing of our EmCom van. We may also have current study materials that can be loaned to class participants in order to obtain their specific license classes, though they are not always available.

Meetings

Meetings are generally held at the Scout Cabin at the Jay County Fairgrounds in Portland, Indiana on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM unless otherwise specified either by email, text, or on our weekly net. On occasion, we'll take the meeting to another location which will be announced on the home page.

Public Relations

If you'd like to contact us about setting up or providing educational support for your organization in our area, please feel free to contact us at w9jcarc@gmail.com. Though we provide our services as a community service and is never required, any donation is helpful to support our efforts. Clubs like Jay County Amateur Radio Club, Inc. (JCARC, Inc.) commonly attend public venues to bring awareness of what ham radio can mean to the community. Our outdoor display typically requires at least a 10' x 10' space and an area to set up some sort of an antenna if a complete demonstration is requested, or much less if you'd like us to demonstrate just the basics of ham radio.

We hope you enjoy our website and if you have any questions or ideas of what you'd like to see here, just post a message to the email address above.

* Though we strive to maintain accuracy on our website, sometimes life gets in the way and we fall behind. So, there may be changes to our published information and other info that we just haven't caught up on.
