Waterford Library have organised a reading challenge!! Follow the link below to find out how you can take part🙂
Don't forget about Anne Frank!
Anne Frank wrote her diaries during WW2. We think it might be a nice idea for you to keep a diary like Anne Frank. You could write down what you did everyday during this isolation period. You don't have to share your diary with anyone but you might look back over it during the years to come and remember that you were a part of this piece of Irish History.
I hope you are all enjoying writing your diary entries. If you haven’t started yet don’t worry. You can start this week.
With everyone self-isolating and staying at home you probably feel you don’t have much to write about. Don’t worry a diary is a personal belonging and you can write in it as many times as you see fit throughout the week.
You may find your entries are short as you are doing mostly the same things every day. Remember a diary is not just to recount events, but also to express your feelings. It can be a place where you can say something you mightn’t want to share with others. You may think it’s silly but you still want to get it off your chest. This is your place to do just that.
In weeks to come or maybe even years you may be intrigued to find out what you were doing or thinking during this strange time. It may make for a very interesting read😊.
Below is a twinkl resource titled ‘Analysing Features of a Diary Entry’. Please take some time to read it and study the 10 features which are numbered and colour coded at the top of every page.
If you would like to practise using these features a good exercise may be to pick a special memory and write a diary entry from that day.
Ideas may be something along the lines of the following:
· Baby brother or sister being born
· Your favourite birthday party
· Christmas Day
· Winning a competition/match
· Family Holiday
There is also a diary entry checklist below you can use to help you with your entries!!
First one is for anyone who likes David Walliams books, he is putting up a free audio book every day. You can access it here or on https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/
The second one you might be interested in is Amazon have made their Audible audio stories free of charge for kids during this time. For as long as schools are closed you can stream lots of stories from this website https://stories.audible.com/discovery or by clicking here
Have a look on the news2day website.
You can write down two interesting things you have learned today.
