Creating relationships with strangers has always been enjoyable for me. I consider myself a friendly person, so going up to random people is something I have been doing more as I grow older. I based my project on Oceanside, a place I call home. My goal for this project was to connect on a personal level with someone or something among Oceanside. After a long process, I stumbled upon Bill, an eighty-year old trumpet player here in Oceanside. I decided to talk to Bill for a bit and then proceeded to ask if I could take some photographs of him. That resulted in: “As long as you email them to me”. I used my film camera to capture Bill doing what he loved since he was five years old. Film photography really captures the true authenticity and feeling that Bill and Oceanside as a whole give off. I hope that people are able to look at the photographs and understand that creating connections with strangers is beautiful. 

About the Artist

I am a twenty one year old artist originally from Ventura, California and currently am based in Oceanside, California. I have lived in Southern California my whole life, which is the most meaningful inspiration to my work. My passion and medium is digital and film photography. My goal and drive as a photographer is to capture unique perspectives here in Southern California which goes from lifestyle photography to surf photography. Taking photographs of the people, and places that characterize and beautify where I live is what I enjoy doing the most. Creating in my eyes is limitless. I have zero limitations or boundaries for my work, which allows me to embody my individuality and authenticity as an artist. Experiencing and capturing moments in time fosters self-expansion. I have the creative freedom with the ability to choose which body of camera, lens, and settings to use, depending on the subject matter that I may be shooting in or of. The joy, ambition, frustration, and relief of pushing the shutter button is a gift within itself. The work up of emotions that I feel can be overwhelming at times, but after all the chaos - the moment that I capture is always worth it.
