My work is a balance between intuition and being realistic – utilizing the resources I already have rightfully to provide context to my ongoing series “Cursed”. The work can be seen as a loaded message within a message – leaving space for contemplation, ambiguity, and form.

About the Artist

My work is ultimately a discourse unlocking a message, a conversation communicating Ideas or a discussion that can be had with hopes society will chime in. Through my art I want to discuss what I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. Or what would have made this discussion difficult for words. “CURSED” is remembering the embodying darkness around us to give us awareness to heal from what haunts us. Even if that seems impossible to do so “CURSED”. Is a dialogue to speak for the unheard, to not shame awareness, to feel what’s not easy to feel and to confront the darkness to gain understanding. To never forget our Ancestors and their sacrifices embodying our true self amongst darkness, amongst the difficult amongst the haunting. For us to heal we must embrace our full self experiencing the connection and continuity of life. Making the connections that even break our hearts and make us start over. Embracing the moment, its swiftness and thrills. It can be viewed as abstract but I view it as functioning energy, confining activation into a desirable material. My work draws from connection, my resentfulness, my memory of Ancestors, the knowledge of my roots, and the constant criticism that was placed upon my ancestors, and the place religion had in condemning my immediate family. This idea that nobody has it all figured out and nobody really knows this awareness of being human without being judged for who you are. I connect with memory as a tool. I use it to restructure the present into the future. I make work through designing ideas, usually with paint I use paint as a method to recut and change the form or dimension of a piece itself. Even the frequency a piece holds. I also do sculptures in a way where I’m constantly trying to replicate organic forms and shapes. I also paint using multi-colored layers not just on my jeans, shirts, and jackets but also in my sculptures as well. My process is all about heart. I’m feeling the entire process itself while being a vessel in spirit so I can transfer myself onto each piece. My work is for whoever can see it, whoever listens and whoever is drawn to the movement see I firmly believe I didn’t choose this, it really chose me. My audience is everyone on the same wavelength where they are drawn to the art with curiosity in their heart in hopes to learn; not just to learn but to heal from learning. See the pieces themselves represent an idea of rebellion, community, and heart.
