(UN)EARTHING showcases the world as seen through the eyes of art students on the verge of graduation from the Art, Media, and Design department at CSU San Marcos. The multi-disciplinary works – ranging in forms from drawing and painting, to photography and sculpture, printmaking and digital media – explore "unearthing" as a process of (self)discovery: amplifying our understanding of ourselves, one another and the environments we inhabit. As such, the artworks address pressing social issues including climate change, systemic inequities in healthcare, homelessness, the effects of social media and popular culture on our notion of self, and our relationships to family and subcultural communities. The exhibition will be open to the public, free of charge, and will provide visitors with the opportunity to engage with thought-provoking works that address a range of current issues.
