This event is for welding students that would like to take a welder qualification test on the SMAW or FCAW-G processes. Students will follow an AWS D1.1 Welding Procedure Specification to complete the welding test. If the student passes the welding test, a Welder Performance Qualification Record (Certification) will be written and stamped by a Certified Welding Inspector.
Dr. William R. "Billy" Harrell was a pioneer in the establishment of agricultural mechanics project shows and the creation of the Tractor Technician Career Development Event. He is known by thousands of our students as the man on the oxyacetylene video and countless other ag mech instructional videos.
He was a true teacher with a heart for all students—at both the secondary and collegiate levels, and left a legacy for students and teachers that will stand the test of time. He was serving students and teachers to the very end of his life.

The testing will start at 8:00 am and end at 4:00PM.
Students will need to bring their welding safety equipment in order to participate.
All Students who pass visual inspection on their Weldment, will move on to be tested for a 1G or 3G Certification in accordance with AWS D1.1.
All plates that pass visual inspection will be send to X-Ray, by Acuren. Schools will be able to down load their X-Rays from the website after the event!
There is no fee for this event.
All safety rules will be observed.
Contestants will provide all proper PPE
Each contestant will be assigned a TWS number that will be written on their coupons.
All contestants must clean welding stations after use.
Observers will not be allowed in the competition area.
Students need to bring tools. (chipping hammer, wire brush, hood and pliers)
Students will need to select their position and process prior to the Certification Date
Students will go through brief safety inspection and training before each group enters the weld testing area.
