!!! This is NOT a complete guide. This page rather serves as overview and reminder. Please, check out the full guide to learn more about blocking. !!!
"Blocking" at TT means: stopping the wurm from spitting out eggs, husks, and drool spit with reflects + invulnerability
Mesmer can block all husks, all eggs, and all drool spits; best class by blocking capability; easiest class for blocking
1) Prepare your character:
Build templates (you can copy&paste these ingame):
- Mirage (recommended) [&DQcXNQE+OyojDyMPgwGDAX8BfwGCAYIBvAG8AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA=]
- Chrono [&DQcXNRgdKCojDyMPgwGDAX8BfwGCAYIBvAG8AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABWQAA]
- Virtuoso [&DQcXNRgdQisjDyMPgwGDAX8BfwGCAYIB7RK8AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABWQAA]
- core Mesmer [&DQcXNRgdAT4jDyMPgwGDAX8BfwGCAYIBvAG8AQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABWQAA]
Gear: ideally tanky, but any works
Jade Tech Offensive/Defensive Protocol buffs will grant you extra stats + boons (require EoD + Jade Bots mastery)
Weapons: any can work, e.g. mainhand: sword or scepter + offhand: shield, sword, or focus | or 2-handed: spear
Note: when using mainhand sword on Mirage, turn of the auto attack, else the ambush skill will activate when you dodge, making you move away from the block spot (ctrl + right click on skill1)!
2) Learn the 1st phase wurm attacks:
animation video: https://youtu.be/uR3OQGfRnec
wide spin: large orange aoe around the wurm -> knockback and damage => dodge/block personally
small spin + drool spit: also a large aoe around the wurm while the wurm curls up, then spits out many small drool aoes -> knockback and damage from the spin; high damage from drool => invuln-block
egg + husk spit (same animation): the wurm pulls back its head, to then move forward and spit out either 3 eggs or 1 husk; this repeats 3 times => this attack you want to "block" with invulnerability/reflect
3) Know how to block different spit types:
Eggs: 40s cd; can be blocked with reflect or invulnerability -> Feedback or F4 Distortion
Husks: 80-90s cd; can only be blocked with invulnerability -> F4 Distortion
Drool: can only be blocked with invulnerability -> Signet of Midnight or Signet of the Aether
4) Blocking
When you start learning to block at TT, you can just practice dodging to stay alive and on the right spot during your first runs. Once you manage, try to use your skills to actually block some of the wurm's attacks.
Position: the blocker must be in the very middle of then wurm, see invuln spot
Husk and egg blocking ("rotation"):
- event start (and after blocking husks): get 3 illusions up (any phantasm or clone skills work) / Virtuoso generates enough blades with its traits
- 1st spit (whenever husks are ready/not on cooldown): use F4 Distortion
=> check for invuln message or chat log:
- 1x "invulnerable" per spit = husks => wait for wurm's next attack
- 3x "invulnerable" per spit = eggs => quickly get 3 new illusions:
(1) Mirage: dodge / Chrono: spawned by Illusionary Revision trait / Virtuoso: gets enough blades with Infinite Forge trait / core Mesmer: sword 5
(2) weapon clone skill (sword 3 / scepter 2 (double tap) / spear 2)
(3) use Signet of Illusions (also resets F4 cd)
- 2nd spit:
- when the 1st spit was husks (+ whenever husks are on cd): use Feedback
- when the 1st spit was eggs (+ whenever eggs are on cd): use F4 Distortion (again)
- There will most likely be a single egg spit happening before the next husk spit -> use Feedback while husks are still on cd.
Drool blocking:
- use Signet of Midnight or Signet of the Aether (different cast times! - dodging on Mirage while using Signet of the Aether let's you reduce the cast time)
Avoiding wide spins:
- depending on your weapons/specialisation: Mirage dodge, sword 2, sword 4, scepter 2, shield 4, spear 3
Please, also remember:
- The "Invulnerable" text and chat message will only show when blocking with invulnerability, using projectile blocks/reflects will NOT show this text!
- Join the 2nd subgroup and inform your commander that you intend to block for easier communication.
- Try to communicate with other blockers: note down "h" for blocked husks, and "e" for blocked eggs.
