!!! This is NOT a complete guide. This page rather serves as overview and reminder. Please, check out the full guide to learn more about blocking. !!!
"Blocking" at TT means: stopping the wurm from spitting out eggs, husks, and drool spit with reflects + invulnerability
Guardian can only block 2 of 3 husks, and all eggs, but no drool spits
1) Prepare your character:
Build templates (you can copy&paste these ingame):
- Luminary [&DQEuOw0XUTUDAQMBSgEAAP8AAAAtAQAANwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADBQBmAAkBAA==]
- Willbender [&DQEuOw0XQRYDAQMBSgEAAP8AAAAtAQAANwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADWgAxADIAAA==]
- Firebrand [&DQEuOw0XPjsDAQMBSgEAAP8AAAAtAQAANwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADBQBmAAkBAA==]
- Dragonhunter [&DQEuOw0XGx8DAQMB/wAAAEoBAAAtAQAANwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADBQBmAAkBAA==]
- Core guardian [&DQEuOw0XMR4DAQMBSgEAAP8AAAAtAQAANwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADBQBmAAkBAA==]
Gear: ideally tanky, but any works
Jade Tech Offensive/Defensive Protocol buffs will grant you extra stats + boons (require EoD + Jade Bots mastery)
Weapons: e.g. mace + shield, focus
2) Learn the 1st phase wurm attacks:
animation video: https://youtu.be/uR3OQGfRnec
wide spin: large orange aoe around the wurm -> knockback and damage => dodge/block personally
small spin + drool spit: also a large aoe around the wurm while the wurm curls up, then spits out many small drool aoes -> knockback and damage from the spin; high damage from drool => dodge
egg + husk spit (same animation): the wurm pulls back its head, to then move forward and spit out either 3 eggs or 1 husk; this repeats 3 times => this attack you want to "block" with reflect/invulnerability
3) Know how to block different spit types:
Eggs: 40s cd; can be blocked with reflect or invulnerability -> shield 5, Wall of Reflection, Shield of the Avenger, Tome of Courage --> Chapter 3: Valiant Bulwark (Firebrand)
Husks: 80-90s cd; can only be blocked with invulnerability -> Renewed Focus (elite)
Drool: can only be blocked with invulnerability -> you will not be able to block any drool spits (unless you don't block husks), as Renewed Focus is your only invuln skill
4) Blocking
When you start learning to block at TT, you can just practice dodging to stay alive and on the right spot during your first runs. Once you manage, try to use your skills to actually block some of the wurm's attacks.
Position: the blocker must be in the very middle of then wurm, see invuln spot
Husk and egg blocking ("rotation"):
- 1st spit:
- use one of your reflect skills: shield 5 / Wall of Reflection / Shield of the Avenger / Firebrand: Tome 3 --> skill 3
- if you see a husk get out => add Renewed Focus immediately to block the 2nd and 3rd husk
- if you don't see anything get out = eggs blocked => wait for the next spit
- 2nd spit:
- when the 1st spit was husks: use another reflect skill: shield 5 / Wall of Reflection / Shield of the Avenger / Firebrand: Tome 3 --> skill 3
- when the 1st spit was eggs: use Renewed Focus, this will block 2 of the 3 husks
- You can always use one of your reflect skills when the wurm spits, without having to worry about timers/cooldowns. If there is another blocker inside the wurm with you, there is a chance that they have blocked husks - you won't be able to see a difference from blocking eggs. You'll be safe by always placing one of your reflects.
- Luminary/Willbender: use alacrity to reduce the cooldown of Renewed Focus, to make sure it will be ready again for the next husk spit
- Luminary: Enter your F4 Radiant Forge and use skills 2, 3, 5 (skill 4 can be used as well, but you need to reposition)
- Willbender: Use your F2 Flowing Resolve and attack the wurm to gain alacrity.
Drool blocking:
- not possible, unless you don't need to block husks -> Renewed Focus
Avoiding wide spins:
- mace 3, focus 5, shelter (heal), aegis (e.g. from shield 4 - aegis only blocks a single attack; if you get hit by something else, you lose your block), dodge
Please, also remember:
- Join the 2nd subgroup and inform your commander that you intend to block for easier communication.
- When there are more blockers with you, they may block husks, therefore you won't see anything getting out even when only using a projectile block skill. Blockers should communicate and note down "h" for blocked husks, and "e" for blocked eggs.
